Not sure if this post belongs here, or elsewhere. If this is not the appropriate location, please let me know.

Once you have burned a DVD, how do you validate it?

I am using DVD-lab Pro to author DVDs. It has the ability to validate, either by reading all sectors, or by comparing the DVD contents to the files used on your PC. However, not everybody will want to purchase such as application just to check any DVDs they create.

A search of this web site did not show any utilities that could be used for DVD validation. In the hopes that I have missed something, I am asking the community for advice.

    Thank you.

I don't know about DVD-lab Pro, but Nero has a "verify written data" checkbox in the burn window. I would think most DVD burning apps have it built in.

  3. If you download nero, there is a seperate program that comes with it called Nero CD/DVD Speed. The program can do a scandisc on your disc and report any unreadable areas. Even though I don't use Nero to burn DVDs its a great way to check them.

I have used CDCheck for years now (pretty much since the first betas) and come to trust it. Don't be swayed by the 'CD' part of its name - it does compare DVDs as well.

    It's free...

CDCheck can be used freely for personal, educational use as long as you are not making any money with data being CRCed, checked or recovered. Otherwise please register it to support further development of CDCheck.
