  1. Apparently all 52 episodes series 1-8 are available in Japan, and here in the UK we are only up to series 4, with series 5 being released in November.
Japan will have released all 52 episodes on both 'vanilla' DVD and VHS by March 2003. Pre-sales of the Series I to IV boxed set exceeded the initial run of 3,500, immediately causing a second run to begin even before the release date. Within 10 days, over 5,000 boxed sets had been sold (approx. £85 per set). Versions of the extras-laden UK DVDs also have a planned Japan release.

I don't understand why the BBC has released them so much earlier in Japan than they have in the UK. I know these are just DVD's of the series with no extras, but it's the episodes that I want. not too bothered about the extras. Being a home grown series, I would have expected a UK release first.

    Hello,
Yea some of its on dvd. Can you believe ABC aired a show on Monday about pilots that never worked and INCLUDED Red Dwarf?

I saw it on my local PBS station for a couple of years! Obviously someone didn't do any research for that show (like going to there local Best Buy!).

i gues they knew the fans here already have them all on VHS and will be interested in the extras (they are great "Mummy turned into a blobl!!!" ) but didn't want a double inventory (that pisses me off, when dvds/cds have a special edition 6 months after initial release )

I'll never forget when Ace first appears, I think in Dimension Jump .
I died from laughter several times on that one.

    Hello,
Question about Red Dwarf from part time watcher:

How did Rimmer become a hologram?

Wasn't he the computer in the early episodes? He then became a hologram with the H on his forehead? How?

Also, who was the robot with the puffy shoulders (the bald white guy?). And when did the black vampire come on board?

Speaking of changes, when did the women come on the show?

Obviously I've seen some episodes but not enough. Is there a website for a synopsis of the series as a whole?

    Kevin

EDIT -- WAS Rimmer the black captain? Sorry, the guy who played the hologram is the one who had the bit parts as the butler in the two Tomb Raider movies.

I really don't know much about the show. I only saw maybe 10 episodes

  14. 1. He died from not sealing the drive plate properly in the first episode "the end"

    2. No the computer in the first three was male Holly then 4,5,6 and 7 female Holly and then back to male Holly in 8

    3. Kryten

    4. Christine Kochanski became a full cast member in series 7 (although she crops up in a few episodes along the way, not the same actress though).

That would be me. Sorry. I only saw 10 episodes or so spread out over the run of the show. It was on like 11:30 on Friday nights on my PBS station. I tried to catch it every now and then. I don't think they even showed the whole series.

Are you sure there not talking about the US version? I know that a US version pilot was made ages ago, and despite having the guy who played Kryten in our show, it sucked out load.

    Hello,
Tool Man + flaninacupboard - Really? I just saw Red Dwarf and ASSUMED it was the same show. After all, pilots and the regular series often go through DRASTIC changes.

SEE the CAGE for the original Star Trek and then the Kirk version that actually aired. Huge difference between Pike and Kirk.

i think it's just japanese dubbing, which is odd as i thought japs prefer subtitles to dubbing.

Maybe they finally got curious about what English speaking countries joke about dubbed Japanese movies! (you know, the Godzilla effect????).

    Kevin

P.S. You know, maybe they want to see what's so funny about a language being dubbed offsynch?
