Hi,
Just got some 8x Verbatim DVD-R for my nice new G5 I've already ripped some DVDs and have them on my HD waiting for my blank DVDs (Only problem now is I need to get my mac to work...but thats a different story)
So....I want to burn the DVDs I've copied I decided to rip the whole DVD not just the film (Although most don't have much Special bits) what should I make sure I do first do ensure that I don't waste these nice blank 8x DVDs?
Thanks
Oh yeah at the moment I only have toast 5.x will this make a huge difference and should I wait untill I get Toast 6 which should be in the next week or so?

Toast 6 does play nicer with 8x discs...less chance
of getting the "Buffer Underrun" message I
hear using Toast 6.07 ( latest build) than Toast 5.
First thing, get the G5 fixed.
Second, test in SIMULATION mode a burn to the 8x disc.
If Your Burner doesn't like them, or you find that
Toast "caps" the burn speed to say 4x or "Best",
then you can take the media back and get TDK or
Maxell or something the forum has stated that will
burn at 8x.
Third, have fun once you get the first two knocked out,
and burn to your hearts content!!"Everyone has to learn, so that they can one day teach."

What is the problem with the G5?
-
Hi galactica and Terry I've fixed my G5 (a friend had my G5 over the weekend and had turned off the BlueTooth so when I turned it on I couldn't use it and I didn't have a spare usb mouse...managed to turn BT on with a friends mouse so alls well)
I used DVDoneX this morning and it took about 20 mins to do a 6GB DVD got it down to about 4.3GB so next step is Toast but I thihnk I'll wait till I get Toast 6 b4 I start Burning the dvds off my HD.
Silly Question but will a 8x dvd burn at 8x the duration of the film ie will it take 1/8 of say 1 and a half hours to burn a DVD? is that how it works?
Thanks"Something Funny" -
No, the DVD burn speed is unrelated to the playtime (unlike CD-Rs) as the bitrate can vary wildly, and so the playtime is not fixed as audio CDs are. An 8x burner will burn an entire DVD-R in about 4-5 minutes (plus verification), as long as it's kept fed with enough data.
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté." -
Amazing isnt it! Anyone remember when 58 min for a dvd was FAST!!! Heck even 25 min was Lightening!!!!
i really have to get me a new burner -
I know..I go to work and we have -106's and -107s there..
I backed up a whole DVD of data in 11 mins(!) on the
-107.
I'm hoping that once the -108's get firmly entrenched
I can move up to a -106 at least, which will get me
with TDK 4x media a full DVD in ( I think) 13 mins..?
And don't forget blu-ray in theory is supposed to get us
to 24x speed!!!"Everyone has to learn, so that they can one day teach."
