What is the most important feature you would look for in DL DVD Writers?
In future, we will see DVD-R dual layer discs, (hopefully).
Personally, I would vote for dual format support for DL.

CAV? Why would you want to burn with anything else than CLV for speeds <6x?
I doubt any other book type than DVD-ROM will be good for DL discs so "bitsetting" is without doubt the most important feature for DL burning. I rather have one format with good compatibility than two formats with bad compatibility... -
Exactly. And I think the only DL format that does and will support DVD-ROM bitsetting is DVD+R9. So if DVD Forum's DVD-R9 does not have DVD-ROM recorded by default, there will be a big disappointment among its users. And of course some avid DVD-R supporters will try to do any kind of workaround with DVD-R9 just to stay away from DVD+R9 which is already about 97% compatible with current DVD players if you set book type to DVD-ROM (without DVD-ROM bitsetting it's only about 47% compatible).Originally Posted by -jsl-
I was using and supporting DVD-R format way before DVD+R was introduced (still have my working DVR-A03), and was very angry when they did come out with DVD+R/RW as a competing format. But let's agree that at least on DL front DVD+RW camp has a cutting edge, and it will be stupid for DVD Forum to introduce a new format to the market for no other reason, but just to compete with the DVD+RW camp. DVD+R9 already works, is practical and widely compatible with DVD-ROM bitsetting, so why not just adopt it.
P.S.: In fact one of my DVD+R9 DL discs with DVD-ROM bitsetting was successfully recognized and played by a couple of players in BestBuy that failed to play regular DVD+R5 with DVD-ROM bitsetting!!! There you go DVD Forum, try to compete with that kind of DL compatibility! -
When did Pioneer say it will be coming out with a working DVD-R DL drive? Was it December 2004? Haven't heard anything from Pioneer in a while.

4x DL burning already sounds ok, and i doubt i would care much about -R DL untill it been around for a while, so the first thing i will look for is that the name start with a P and ends with ioneer. From the available options i say "Dual format" is more important.
