MediaCom Cable w/ HDTV Ques

ok i just signed up for the hd cable through mediacom. the HD (i.e. ESPND) stations are coming out great but the salesperson told me that if a regular program on a non HD channel (i.e. CNN) was "being broadcast in HD where available" i would recieve it in high-definition...but i'm not? is it the cable box not converting the signal? how would i be able to recieve these channels in HD? thanks!

You arent. HD is for HD only channels. Your salesperson lied to you, or was an idiot, which actually come to think of it was probably the latter
