    hey all,

First of all, I am extremely delighted to join this site...its absolutely incredible...thanx to all who brought this one up.

Secondly, well I am trying to put together a system for video editing. I have an intel 128mb built in for Graphic card. Installed a Matrox RT2500 as my capture card. Using Premiere 6. Because this Matrox model is old, I had to install two operating systems...xp and 2000. Matrox works with the latter.

    The problem is:

Matrox seems to capture pretty well..no gliches, no dropped frames..no problems at all.

When I edit and assemble shots and audio tracks...and command they get rendered...my system automatically RESTARTS. ...so u can imagine how frustrating it can be.

As I read in my Matrox manual...it seems placing the captured video and audio on the same disk, might highten the possibility of a crash...but the funny thing is I have captured video on C: disk which is 40 GB. and audio on D: which has around 7 GB. Hence eliminating this factor

what could it be? what's causing the system to crash?

P.S: I have 1 GB of Ram - 2.8 GHZ - 100 GB on two physical disks ( 80 +20) - Built in VGA and AUDIO (intel Chipset motherboard) -

hope u can help me figure out this one....thank u so much in advance!

    Hello,
Not sure why you have to seperate the two. What format does it save it in - MPG or AVI? Maybe somebody else has a solution- (free bump ).
    Kevin
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

well as for the seperation...it was an advice from the manual to make sure the hard disk doesn't get too busy, hence pc crash. when they're seperated, each disk will have its own thing to worry about...

anyway..either that is helpful or not...the pc is still crashing after few orders i give to premiere 6 with this matrox in control.

u know something...its the inconsistency that kills u...one time matrox works with no issues..other times..i'd have to reboot over 15 times in an hour..so God HELP US ALL!..

p.s: still waiting for helpful tips on my issue with matorx...don't tell me no one here is familiar with stuff like that..come on people..i've seen u help on tougher and more sophisticated subjects...help please

I'm immediately concerned about the built-in graphics card. I know that, in general, graphics cards won't make a huge difference, but I do know that Matrox is a bit unique in this respect. I've seen systems crap out when both a Matrox video and cheapo graphics were forced to work together. I know Matrox graphics cards are ideal for Matrox video cards.

I also know that a RAID ZERO array can possibly help, though I saw one Matrox system drop MORE frames on RAID 0 than not, also tended to crash a bit.

I've seen Matrox capture audio/video just fine to the same drive (7200 rpm, 8MB cache, 120GB). No need to be separate, I think that was more of a statement about drive speeds in the days when RT2500 was new.

I don't think your system is adequate yet, get a better graphics card, and a newer, more adequate hard drive. Better yet, put the drive on an isolated ATA card.

I don't know why the RT2500 won't work with XP. Did you try HOME or PRO? The 2000 and PRO are almost the same thing.

Adobe Premiere 6.0 is an unstable piece of $hit software too. It always gave me trouble, upgrading to 6.5 was a lifesaver. Do the Matrox realtime filters plugin to 6.5 also, or are they limited to 6.0?

If anything, I'd bet money on Premiere 6.0 doing the crashing, combined with an old 20GB drive (likely 5400rpm or slower, older ATA speeds). Add in a graphics card that Matrox doesn't like, and you've got a recipe for video/computer hell.

Good luck. Have fun with that card. Wish I had one.

ok great...so if i got u straight..u think my graphic card (built in) might be causing the crash..and the system is inadequate. I'll take ur word for it.

one question though: what do u think of matrox g550 graphic card?

I think it is the combination Premiere 6.0 and the RT2500. Was Premiere "REALTIME" by the time 6.0 came around? The conflict may be between Premiere and your RT2500. Try a trial of a newer version or get Mediastudio 7 trial. Ulead and Matrox have been in bed with one another for quite some time. It was only until the RTX10 and RTX100 came out that they switched to Premiere.
Your miserable life is not worth the reversal of a Custer decision.

well sillyname...thanx for ur input. AND guess what..I do have mediastudio 7 already, so I will make sure that i try it.

BUT...regarding what u said about premiere 6, for ur information, that software came with the Matrox RT2500 original package, which makes me conclude that adobe and matrox have been on regular one night stands themselves! :P ...

In any case, I do think its more of a graphic card issue, although lately the built in 64 mb i got seems to work fine these days.

maybe i'll get a G550 Matrox when I get enough reviews about it...or perhaps other ones that someone has tried to work sufficiently well with Matrox RT2500 like GeForce or others...so people hope u give out ur feed back. STILL WAITING FOR FEEDACK ON THAT ONE PEOPLE

PS: " members with no actual knowledge on Matrox need not to confuse me more, for I am already shattered "

    thanx again sillyname
