    It's a temperamental proceedure......

You may will to alter the settings in the software - certainly DeScaler used to flip settings at will and would need a re-boot to get it sorted again.

Sounds simple (sorry), but try the preview option in iuVCR, otherwise you will not see what you're getting - but keep the preview size small otherwise CPU usage will max out. I found iuVCR to be the most forgiving software to capture, so I'd play around with that. Keep the captures as simple as possible - DV if you can.

I'm not sure if iuVCR protects against dropped frames, so you may well have to edit the sound after capture.

Wouldn't the obvious answer be that the VCR he is using can only put out that quasi crap? Most European VCR's can make NTSC "viewable" but it does not convert to a true NTSC. I have yet to see a true converting VCR for sale in a retail store anywhere in Europe.
You can tell a true converting VCR from the others by simply looking at the price.

Doesn't help him with the current predicament.....

And, NTSC/PAL60 capture can be done with a normal VCR, so it's not worth spending hundreds of $ to convert a 10$ VHS to DVD.

  4. Still a bit confused here guys. When my phillips SAA7134 chipset based capture card arrives will I be able to capture my NTSC tapes on colour? Or will I be better of buyng a cheap NTSC video player from e-bay and power converter?

  5. If I bought a Daewoo DV-K486N NTSC VCR. Would I be able to use that to capture my NTSC tapes in colour?

That is the only problem with buying a VCR in Europe...you never really know what they are talking about....quasi or true NTSC.

  8. pierced100,

I'm not having any problems capturing PAL60 by using the btwincap drivers and iuvcr.

Use the composite "Video Out" RCA jack to capture PAL60. Don't use S-Video.
Any bt8xx card with the btwincap drivers is capable to capture PAL60.
Dscaler is excellent to test the abillities of your card. If you see that something works with dscaler, it means that it works! You simply have to find the "how to capture it".

I can capture PAL60 with plenty freeware capture programs, including Virtualvcr and virtualdub (using advance methods, I don't have time to explain...)
