  1. I was thinking about the best configuration to convert VHS to DVD as I'm really picky about the whole quality thing. Anyhow, I just tried a couple of macrovision removers and decided to just go straight for the AVT-8710. Since that's already a TBC would it be overkill to get the JVC DR-M10 DVD Recorder and the JVC HR-S9911U VCR? I think both of those have been known to have TBCs or something like them built in and I don't want to have too much video correction causing a problem. Could I get some opinions on this setup and whether it would be overkill or not?

  2. You can shut down the TBC and probably the DNR filters in the HR-S9911U if you want or need to. The DR-M10SL does not have a way to turn off the pre-encoding TBC/DNR, but the TBC is very mild and the DNR is effective and desirable. Most everyone who uses a TBC-1000 or AVT-8710 in between report no problems.

You need a very high quality VCR to play back VHS with if you want to do a good capture. It makes a really big difference.

  3. So from the sounds of it I should have no problem with that configuration but the most important part of it would be to get the decent VCR. At least with that VCR I could turn off the filters if there is a problem. Thanks for the info.
