Hello everybody,
I'm stuck with a major issue : I reinstalled windows 2000 pro (without service packs), virtualdub-mpeg2 1.5.10, TmpgEnc 2.521.58.169 and the codecs I'm using regularly (Canopus DV and Mainconcept).
The problem is the following, when frame serving to TmpgEnc, it says "can not open file, or unsupported".
So I browsed over the various forums and tried all the hints (like changing priorities of the VFAPI plug-ins, install other codecs, install service pack4, install direct X 8.1, ...) BUT NONE OF THEM WORK, I still cannot frameserve anything to TmpgEnc.
Allthough TmpgEnc opens the AVI files directly, it cannot use them when they are frameserved through virtualdub.
One could argue "why have you reinstalled your system ?" well it got cluterred with to many trial softwares (uninstall does clean up everything, so the system degrades but does not crash).
I want to understand what is missing! Can anyone help me out of this trouble ???
thanks in advance
jacobus

Sounds like bad version or bad install of AVISYNTH is being used.

Hello Lordsmurf,
I don't understand your reply : I haven't installed Avisynth.
And as far as virtualdub is concerned there is no installer, except the auxsetup, that I have runned, without any change
....

Why not install the service pack4? try installing the PANASONIC CODEC. You can find the PANASONIC CODEC under TOOLS in this site. I use windows 2000 pro w/sp4 and use the same programs as you do. I have no problems at all.

After installing the Panasonic DV codec, nothing changed as far as virtualdub is concerned; but on the Tmpgenc side, it doesn't open any canopus DV files anymore, only the mainconcept files are still being read.
for the frameserving, no changes also...
Sad

Go into VirtualDub Folder > aviproxy
Double-click proxyon.reg
If you still can't frameserve, rename your .vdr to .avi and try that.
'From readme in aviproxy folder >
'The AVIFile handler included with VirtualDub 1.3b is capable
of running in Proxy mode -- that is, you can install it as the
*default* handler for AVI files, and it will work with signposts
that are renamed to the AVI extension. This means that
applications which previously failed with the AVIFile handler
because of the .VDR extension can now be used, provided that
the .VDR files are renamed to the .AVI extension.' -
I am having the same problem. I am using windows 2000. It seems that if the avi is loaded into virtualdub and without adding any filters namely subtitles ,when frameserving, tmpgenc will accepts it. But when a sub is added it refuses to accept, saying file unsupported. Why is is so? Is there a way to overcome it? The proxything on/off doesn't changed anything, I tried.

So nothing additionnal is required : no SP4, no additional codecs, no other softwares...Be yourself and be happy in what you do -
