I am going to rant on this today, because you know what, I am a veteran member and I can.
I've seen some members on this site are acting if their post counts entitle them to some special status and that people that post less are uninterested in the site or dont come here enough to care and then they get lambasted in their messages. Let me tell you right now, post counts are 100% MEANINGLESS - they are no indication of your skill level or your interest.
If you have this attitiude that you are post count king or want to be, ask your self, did you actually help X number of people, or provide X bits of useful information to the site, or did you just post X silly quips.
I am probably the oldest member with the fewest post and you know what, I am proud of that, because I know that I have probably asked 50 decent technical questions myself and tried to help a few hundred people with their problems. Lets try to show some humility out there.
2nd gripe is with the non-sense OT posts that seem to be growing. While I can't say one way or another where you want to spend your time, some of these are down right ridiculous. If a newbie comes on the site with a simplistic question, everyone blasts him or her as wasting their time, yet then people feel its worthy of their time to contribute to the retarded thread "Do You Masterbate". Yes its all free speach, but it takes away from the professionalism of the site - why do we need it? Why aren't there some guidelines for OT threads? Go over to the Vegas Video forum and you will see what I mean. When someone posts OT, it usually about something technically related.
I like a little humor and lightness also, but there is a line between this being a videophile site or a forum of immature banter.
End of rant....

Hello,
I don't care about post counts either. Though, I do like milestone numbers (guilty pleasure I guess, but I do have hundreds of LEGIT posts). Off topic is just that, off topic. It's lawless out there and users should tread lightly. I only found it this month and I'm already addicted.
Maybe they should allow all users access to the post count breakdown, then anyone can see where their expertise lies. Oh well, let the offtopic forum be.
Kevin

Where are all of these people who say that their post count makes them royalty? The way you go on about it, I'd expect to run into them every other post.
I have seen the occasional "I've been around/in video for years" posts, which means seniority, which is legit and not related to post count. -
I have helped people in other forums but I prefer off-topic because we have better discussions there.

Cap, you have been here 6 months - what makes you think this is the only forum that is worthwhile.
The VV forums have guys who are shooting their own documentarys or work in Hollywood editing studios or have written books on the subjects. I am afraid they offer a slightly different perspective over there sometimes which you cannot deny. -
Actually capmaster was here longer than 6 months. He had a different username then.

I help noobs all the time, even flame a few pirates every now and then.
But the OT forum if for shits and giggles here and we use it in such a manner. -

Maybe this calls for a reset!
But that may be harder than it seems. -
I've been here a long time too. I just never set up a member status. So the date may not really mean much either. Posts do count when related to specific categories. In OT we call high post count people Post Whores, because it's not related to anything specific. OT is quite addictive and has brought in many people. One nice thing is, those of us who venture out into the other forums may often refer the thread or PM it to someone they are pretty sure will be able to help the questioning party. Here in OT are generally people who have a strong and set way of making their bootle...I mean back-ups that truly does work. There is a good chance that were going to be able to help. OT forum just gives us reason to hang around more often. The more often we hang around, the more we'll venture into the other forums and help people. Without OT, we probably wouldn't hang here very often and would probably not even think of coming back often unless we had a problem ourselves. So in a way, the OT forum is a benefit. If you're going to get upset at regulars to the OT forum and gripe about how we chat with each other and keep occupied here then here is my elevated response -
If you think we're just a bunch of a**holes who just feel like messing around and boasting on post numbers and don't provide any real help, let me point you in the direction of someone who cares -
And this is just because your remarks are just plain stupid - -
OK, who moved this? It was on the front page a few minutes ago.

I think most people are embarrased by their massive post counts and the amount of time spent here. Postwhores are how most of us describe ourselves.I havnt heard "postking" around here. Milestones are milestones. I will not be happy about turning 70,but I still will recognize it.
This definately not the place for sensitive people. tygress,I have never seen you post, but today you were ranting all over the place. Hope you have a better day tomorrow -

Speaking of post count: I think it's more important when you're a noob than it is later on. I was excited about reaching the "magic 1,000" because it meant many of the noob flames wouldn't materialize in my direction.
I define a "post whore" as someone who trolls around looking for a topic he can use to add to his post count. I don't include interesting threads or valid technical threads in that total. I've "whored" posts, but usually to get the 5 or 6 needed to reach the next milepost and get busy on my "Capmaster's X,oooth post" thread. Then I go back to normal mode - commenting on sheep, bowel movements, and redwinging. You know ..important stuff
You can have an "anti-post-whore" too. That's someone who has been here 2 years and has 50 posts. WTF? 1 post every two weeks? Who here could operate in that mode? -

Repeat this as you're getting ready for work/school, and again at bedtime for one week. Then you'll no longer be a pledge, but a full post whore -

See my previous post. And ...we'll know if you've really been chanting it or if you're faking 8)
If we think you're faking, you'll have to type it 1,000 times (no copy/paste) with one letter different each time -
Hello,
I'm done!! I just time traveled into next week and back again! Boy that chanting is a pain. You know there has to be an easier way to do this. Let's see, how about the Bart Simpson approach, I'll just keep typing it over and over again:

Heh heh. I like this guy
You didn't know it, but this was a test. If you had waited a week and then announced you had done it, I'd have known you didn't "have the stuff". But since you compressed the whole week into 5 minutes, in true post whore fashion, I knew right away that we had a serious post whore who was willing to make up some bullshit story about time travel so he could resume his posting.
Welcome aboard!!!!!

I scrounged the forum for about a year or so b4 I ever became a member.
I was one of those guest the regulars normally laugh about. -
Yup. I was here off and on (as an unregistered guest) from June 2002 until my registration with my first handle, then in Feb. 2004 with my current one
