  1. I'm in the US and have someone in Europe wanting copies of some DVD-RAM recordings I have, so here is my question. If I copy the recordings to DVD-R in NTSC, will they play on a PAL DVD player? I've read a few posts saying they will, but does anyone have actual experience with this and can confirm for sure they will play? I don't want to go through the whole copying process and shipping them find out they won't play.

I live in the UK and the most equipment (dvd players and tvs) are capable of playing both NTSC and PAL. However, thats not to say that every player/tv is NTSC/PAL compliant, but the majority are.

Find out the make and model of the dvd player and tv from the individual in Europe.

  3. It also depends a bit on where in Europe your friends live. TV production in Europe is kindof local, for example TVs made in England seem to have lower ntsc compatibility than TVs made in Finland and Denmark and so on, and for example many of the Japanese brands came later with NTSC support.

    Hi,

I regularly travel to Europe and always carry discs for friends and I have yet to see a DVD player that wouldn't play a NTSC DVD. Virtually all consumer video equipment /VCR, DVD, TV/ is multisystem and plays everything. Even 10 years old VCRs can play NTSC tapes.

    Enjoy!

Completely agree. One of my old 15 year old (yes, very old) TV is capable of playing NTSC alongside PAL.

from what ive heard, its the USA that has the main problem of equipment being only NTSC compaliant rather than multisytem (NTSC/PAL) complaint. We dont suffer from that here is Europe.

Nevertheless, still do find out the make/model of the dvd player, just to be sure.

Some equipmrnts, like the Playstation 2 is only PAL in the UK. is does play NTSC format, but in black and white.

Thats another point i missed out, the players that are PAL only (very rare for PAL only equipment in Europe) do seem to play NTSC, but in black and while as mentioned.

  7. NTSC DVD's should play already, tapes are more hit and miss but dvds should not cause a problem
DVD region settings are a joke, I can't believe how stupid people are falling for it

  9. Xboxes sold in europe plays NTSC if the TV support NTSC, at least mine does.
waheed: Wasnt aware that PS2 couldnt, are you sure you tested this on the a ntsc capable tv? If it plays it in black and white i would say the PS2 doesnt play ntsc. Its just that to me it sounds like it outputs the ntsc signals as correct ntsc and the tv isnt able to show it correctly.

Yep, my TV is both NTSC/PAL compliant, my dvd player is also NTSC/PAL complaint and i can play NTSC discs on my dvd player correctly in full colour.

However, My PS2 (UK PAL) manages to play NTSC discs, but only in black and white. Kind of sounds weird

Don't have the TV, but the DVD is LG DVD5174 if anyone knows if that will play NTSC DVD-Rs. There are no comments here.

    Hello...

I have a question along this same lines as this thread. I only hope that someone is still reading this. Anyway...

I am a newbie to burning and whatnot. I live in Spain and have a TV (NTSC compliant) and a PS2 (from Spain, if that matters). My question is that when I played my burned PAL movies on the PS2 they play fine however, the NTSC films annoyingly stutter every once in a while. They play fine for the first 2-3 minutes then it just pauses for 2 or 3 seconds, goes on for another2 minutes give or take and then the same again.

The other problems mentioned in the forum don't happen on my set. Everything is in color and the audio is fine....as well as the subs. It is only the annoying stutter that I get.

I'm wondering if it could be the burning speed, the PS2, the encoding (I use Tmpeg enc.) or whatever.

    Thanks for the help.

Bradfrd12 - get a real DVD player. The PS2 is a very average DVD player and can be very picky about what it plays. Get a real stand alone DVD player for watching movies, and leave to PS2 to play games.

I have an LG DV7711P. The only recordable format it definitely won't play (other than mDVD) is DVD+R DL. Given that I bought it for less than $200 Australian, it was very worth it. If you can get an LG model that plays DVD+R DL cheaper than that, go for it. LG players, in my experience, play better than any of the dozen or so others I have used.

I have an LG LH D6430 and that plays NTSC discs (i'm in the UK so PAL native) ......but my mate has a Sony (cant remember model) and his DVD player only plays NTSC discs in black and white (but it may be the old RGB output problem..cant be arsed to check it out its HIS player and TV).

PAL PS2's also play colour NTSC's but again you need the correct RGB cables and a TV that will accept the RGB signal...or some kind of convertor.
