I have this XVID file which plays fine using Winamp (and GSpot agrees that I have the required codec's installed), but I cannot find any way to convert this into a VCD compatible MPEG1.
The audio is VBR so the end product always has a lack of synch between the audio and video. I've tried TMPGEnc and Procoder - no luck. Then i tried using VDub to first extract the audio to an uncompressed WAV file and then feed that into TMPGEnc but still no cigar... I also tried 4cc changer and set codec to DIVX... still no luck!
This is driving me mad! pls help !!!!

Try this,
DEMUX the audio from the avi with VirtualdubMod...then convert to a wav with Audacity, BeSweet, Goldwave, HeadAC3he (or whatever)......just get a full demuxed audio file out of the avi first (and play it/check its length is the same as the video).....once you have the .wav do whatever you want with it.
Vdub/Vdubmod does not always correctly extract and convert VBR audio to wavs (sometimes it does, sometimes it doesnt). -
when you're demuxing the audio using virtualdub, make sure you use full processing. Also make sure the sample rate is 44100 hz (for vcd).
right click on the audio stream and select full processing
right click on it again and choose convert. if the sample rate is 44100 then leave it alone. if it isn't place a dot next to 44100 and click ok. -
You have probably already done this but did you check for bad frames.

methinks this could just be a simple matter of either picking PAL or NTSC,and getting the framerate right,be it 25fps for PAL,or 23.96(or whatever) for NTSC.
i get out of sync audio when i select PAL dvd or svcd, and its got an NTSC framerate, and the same the opposite way. -
He talks of an audio problem only though. If it was framerate related there would also be a noticeable problem with the video.

not really, like i say,if i pick a framerate of 29.whatever,and try to make a PAL output, itll be lagged out like a biatch,up to about 2 or so minutes by the end of the movie.and the picture plays fine.
