  1. I have an 60 minutes long avi file (full-quality capture) and I made a three 20 minutes movies from it. Than I save my movies as an avi files (to preserve them on DVD media). If I choose "same as project" button, I have automaticaly DV video encoder and I can set only sample rates for audio. First question - is in this case the quality of video and audio in those three avi files 100% the same as my captured file and what happens if I choose higher sample rate (default is 32 kHz)- and what's your recommendation for sample rate. Second question - if I later made from my 3X20 minutes avi files one file - 60 minutes long with "same as project" settings - is this avi file 100% the same (video and audio quality) as first file (captured from my camera)?

If your using the exact same settings they should be exact duplicates. So yes it should be the same you just have to mkae sure that it is not reencoding the video, if your using the same settings it shouldn't. I'm not familiar with Pinnacle but easiest way to tell would be the amount of time it takes to create your new file. Exactly how long depends on your machine but for example If I create a new AVI using the exact same settings (including the audio) it takes approx. half the amount of the length of the video.

Changing the audio now won't accomplish anything. I'm assuming that this footage is from a DV cam. The 32 khz is not the default of the program but the default on your cam. See if the cam has a audio setting. Mine has a choice between 32khz 12 bit or 48khz 16 bit with 32 khz 12 bit being the default.

So long as all you have done is cut the file, not added any cross fades, or overlaid any titles, then Pinnacle should (hopefully) just copy the content from file to file. The one advantage to upsampling the audio now is that you will have you go to 48khz if you want to author for DVD, and it will save time later.

  5. If i made 20 minutes avi file, it make some rendering (perhaps only because it must detect what to put into the new file?) and finished very fast (perhaps some minutes).

Yes if you have a 20 minute file and it only takes a few minutes then it should be an exact duplicate. Note that changing the audio settings will increase the amount of time since the audio has to be reencoded.

  7. I try it now, it takes (for 20 minutes long film) cca. 10 minutes - (1/2 of full time)!
