  1. I am starting the process of converting all my dvd's to xvid and I had a question about the quality settings. I am converting so that I can keep all my movies on the hard drive, but without losing much quality. I converted the same movie useing 100% quality, and max 2000mb file size. The 100% quality setting produced a file that was only 1.8Gb so my question is is the 2GB file wasting the last 200 megs?

  2. After reading this myself a day later I understand I may need a little clarification. What I did was I converted this movie 2 times, once with 100% quality, and once with a 2000 MB file limit. Now I understand that because im converting this to another format that there will be some quality loss, and im ok with that. I have viewed both of these on my tv and they both look great. However, my tv is only a 19inch and I plan on upgrading in the future and dont really want to have to convert all these twice if the quality isn't going to be that great on a bigger screen. So really i have four questions.

    1. Is autoGK bloating the file to make it 2000MB or is there actually a difference in the quality.

    2. Does anyone that has a bigger screen (ie 36inch) have experience with the quality of these settings and does it look good?

    The 2000MB video is 1:39:04, 704X288, 23fps, audio is 448Kbps AC3 and Video is 344Kbps XVID

    The 100% video is 1:39:04, 704X288, 23fps, audio is 448Kbps AC3 and Video is 310Kbps XVID

    3. Is encoding a longer movie (maybe 30minutes longer, think your average length movie) going to reduce the quality alot?

    4. If these settings are too low what would be a better setting?
