dumb question, but have to ask...

you record something on a REGULAR vcr.
you hook up a SUPER VHS vcr to your S-Video capture device

you capture from the SUPER VHS...

will the source (from a regular vcr) look better simply because the video signal is S-Video vrom the VCR to the Capture card?

Is it worth the extra $$$ to pick up one of these VCRs for capturing?

  2. Let me get this straight you want to use a SVHS to play a regular VHS tape in hopes of getting better quality. Is this correct? If it is, the answer is no, you won't get any better quality from that process. Now if you picked up a SVHS and started using that to tape with, its differnt situtation.....

that's EXACTLY hat I needed to know.

I wasn't sure if there were some qualities of the separation of the color signals by virtue of the fact that the signal was being pulled off the tape and sent via S-VIDEO.

I didn't know for sure if the composite or the actual signal recorded on the tape itself was the limiting factor.

I've heard sweet vinyl that sounded like crap on somebodys turntable, but with the right balancing you can get alot out of those discs, was wondering if I could do something similar here (getting something for nothing is always a plus if you can pull it off)

    darkelf,

Also, when using your S-VHS, for the best or MAXimum quality, don't forget to
    A - use S-VHS tapes (price range from $6.99[sears] to $12.99[RS])
B - You must record in SP mode, NOT in EP mode
C - optionally speaking, do not try and use the S-VHS tapes to record in EP
mode in hopes of getting good quality records to these S-VHS tapes - - It wont
    work! - quality-wise!!

Just stick to SP mode when recording on your S-VHS recorder and S-VHS recordable
tapes. Course, you can't play these tapes in a regular VCR. Wont work!
Also, movies that you purchased (on the cheap side), when played in your S-VHS
machine wont come out looking better either. They'll play at the same quality as
if played in your standard VCR machine. I've tried.

The downside to recording to S-VHS tapes is you're limited to 2hrs, but. . .
On the UPside, quality is much better - that is also dependant on your source
(cable or satalette). With Satalete being the best quality!

Hope this advise (from experience) will serve you well.
    Good luck!

Now I won't go out and blow my money on an SVHS machine!
