Let us know. There are very few reports on the 8X Prodisc and I have seen no scans.

Eagerly waiting especially as you have a Liteon and should be able to get us a Kprobe PI PIF report.

Update on my legacy 8x +R inkjet printables. dvdinfo pro shows them as Prodisc R03. newegg is darn quick, wanst expecting these til monday and I certainly wasnt expecting prodisc brand under the Legacy label.

I bought "Prodisc Pioneer certified 4x DVD-R Matte Finish in cake box" from supermediastore. I recieved them today.

I'm curious, what is the serial number on these discs? It's on the dye side, printed on the darker dye-colored ring around the hub if you don't know what I mean. Proper Verbatim 4x -Rs I've gotten (MCC 01RG20) had the following serial numbers:
DataLifePlus in jewel cases: ZC1946-DVR-H47A
DataLifePlus thermal printable (bulk 50 disc): ZC6134-DVR-H47C
DataLife retail 50 disc spindle: ZC6134-DVR-H47C

It was really hard to see but I'm pretty sure I got it all right:
ZC6092-DVR-H47C

Hrm, that certainly looks like a Verbatim/MCC serial number. I guess those are the real deal.

4 -50 packs wrapped in blue. They are MCC 01RG20, burned at 6x with Pioneer 107. No problems with playback , just finished watching my backup copy of Predator SE.

Update: Ran a complete scan of 3 DVD-R's with DVDinfopro, and all scans showed all green, no red blocks at all.

I also got the Prodisc in the blue wrappers......the speed tests do not match those I got with the earlier Prodisc, same equipment.
The early Prodisc were flawless, these have deep jags in them, although there were no "red" read errors.

There are significant differences between the old S03s and the new blue wrappers. I see an error rate about 20-30% higher (still good) with a 4X burn and 30-40% lower with a 2X burn. The older S03s do not improve when I reduced the speed to 2X. Since I don't mind a 2X burn and I really liked the improved scans, I kept them.

at 4x, after printing in an r200, I'm starting to see errors! Huge big red chunks that take forever to get passed in DVDINfo.

Just an update..<sigh> I'm tryign at 2x right now...will post results.

Wow. I am glad I got those old S03s! 2x is not an option for me. This really sucks if their media quality has deteriorated.

Think it might be a bad spindle..got two spindles and trying the other now...first spindle has what looks like tiny spots where the sides have been banged on about 1/4 of the disc going aroudn the outside...running your finger along it, you can even feel it's rough...hmm...maybe submit these for an RMA.... On the 2nd spindle, burned one at 4x, and had problems around the very end (about 3 seconsd left in DVD shrink before cyclic redundancy) when trying to open...the first spindle wouldnt even open to begin with, however. or play in a DVD player. (got a "disc may be dirty or damaged" error). On the 2nd spindle, now trying a 4x burn with DVD shrink set to 4100 max, and going to see if I shrink down to 4100, if they'll burn fine. I miss the ProdiscS03's.... <sigh>

This is irritating.

one of mine, and I never looked THAT closely at all my Prodisc burns but certainly never noticed it, had numerous "pock marks" in the dye. It doesn't seem to affect the movie at all but still, that's NOT something I want to see.

I'm SICK TO DEATH of all this media uncertainty for anything other than TY.

You might want to reconsider. Legacy would probably be Longten or Princo and you will get what you pay for, very low value.

This news about the S03 is very disappointing. I've burned about 100 (old) white printable S03s at 8x with an NEC 2500a with only 1 coaster. Has anyone tried burning the new S03s @ 8x? Would I be safer purchasing the 8x Prodisc (R03s?) or should I abandon them for another brand? Who else makes white printable-to-the-hub 4x (8x capable w/2500a) DVD-Rs??

Any other thoughts on an alternative for the Prodisc S03s? Or should I stick with them? Taking a close look at the Linkyo DVD-Rs @ Supermediastore...any thoughts on these? Not many reviews on the media list.

So far the problems with Prodisc relate to a lack of communication and a slight drop in quality of the S03s. It seems to me to be an early warning and while the S03s are still decent media and the MCCs seem to be a good alternative, I am avoiding them until they step up to the plate and CLEARLY state what we can expect to get when we order Prodisc. Their current statement is worthless and tells us nothing.

I have a good reserve of the old S03s and if I buy more discs in the short term I will buy TY. If you don't want to pay the extra for TY (even though they are now cheaper than Ritek was 4 months ago when we all loved them) I would only buy Prodisc if I could be assured of return privilages if it turns out that they degrade further or if they start substituting media worse than MCC. At 35 cents they are not a bad deal, it is just a major disappointment to see that they appear to not care enough about their customers to be honest with us.

Well, here's their latest message to me:

This is what they said to me two weeks ago; essentially they don't know what they will get and so we don't know either. I ordered some over the phone that they were sure were the new Blue Wrapped MCC and they turned out to be the lower quality S03s.

I created my first coaster with Prodisc over the weekend. It errored out at at 98%. At first I thought it was just a anomaly, since the S03 discs have burned great so far in my Pioneer 105. Then I saw this thread and checked the media code. Yup. It's the MCC code that aanaravs initially posted. Isn't Mitsubishi supposed to make decent discs? It seems I inadvertently bought a batch of these MCC discs along with the S03s. I'll try a few more, but I have a bad feeling that MCC and my Pioneer may not mix.

I ordered Prodisc from Meritline and received ones with the MCC stamp. But I do have a question. The reply back is that Prodisc is producing their products with the MCC stamp. That sounds to me like they are making them the same way, just stamping them with MCC instead of S03. Or am I not understanding because that just sounds crazy. Or is stamping a process when making the discs? Is Prodisc using Mitsubishi's process or just their code?

That's what I don't know. Dye colour, matted top, ring distance, even the look and amount of numbers for the inner plastic code look IDENTICAL. The only thing I can see as being different from a visual standpoint is, well, nothing. Just the media code.
