  1. I just purchased a new system and am in the process of setting it up with all of my video/audio programs. My old system had close to 50 video/audio applications. I have only installed the 15 or so that I use on a regular basis. In the process I must have missed something related to AC3 and was hoping you might be able to help.

While I can play DVD's encoded with AC3 audio, and can even convert to AC3 using FFMPEGGUI, AVICODEC reports that I do not have an AC3 codec installed and nothing on my system is indicated as my default AC3 player. I made a file association with ATI's file player and can now play the AC3 file by double clicking the file, however, AVICODEC still shows no AC3 coded installed, and DVDLAB's preview functionality will not work as it indicates that there isn't anything in my system capable of playing AC3. I installed AC3DEC and AC3Filter thinking that it would solve the problem but it hasn't.

Any ideas what I am missing?...Thanks

I have loaded the ATI Catalyst drivers and MMC 9.1 (AIW 9600)
    Virtual Dub
    TMPGENC Plus
    ALIVE MP3 Converter (Standard)
    FFMPEGGui
    DVD Decryptor
    DVDINFOPro
    DVD Shrink
    Nero 6
    WINDVD4
    CoolEditPro
    DVD Lab
    MPEG VCR (Womble)
MPEG Video Wizard 2003 (Womble on steroids)
    AVI Codec
    Divx 5.2
    Huffy
    AC3DEC
    AC3Filter

FWIW, I have Nero Showtime as my default AC3 player, and you can do likewise if you want, since you have Nero 6.

I actually was going to choose WINDVD4 but it doesn't seem to want to play back my FFMPEGgui created AC3 files which itused to do on my old system.

I don't think switching my AC3 default playback to Nero Showtime will help the situation here though...thanks

  4. Well, I decided to proceed as usual and not worry about the fact that AVI Codec reports that there is no AC3 codec or the lack of AC3 preview functionality while using DVD LAB. DVD LAB is still accepting my FFMPEGGUI created AC3 filesand it seems to compile them as well and the resulting VOBS and DVD play back just fine (audio wise)...So all is well I guess.

    Thanks
