I paid $36 for a 6ft. Is this reasonable? It cost more than the fire wire card.

  2. I paid like $6.99 for mine from www.newegg.com.

Online prices were a lot cheaper than the local stores, I mean a lot cheaper!!!!

Not sure... but you may have interference (other power cords, transformers, etc) and a good cable may resolve bad burns (ext burner) and even fuzzy video. Are you going DV --> PC now... try Mainconcept Media Encoder.

    Does 4pin=DV?

  10. Mine is a 4pin to 6pin.

4pin on camcorder, 6pin on computer firewire card.

I have a sony cam with a nearly square "DV" out. I've seen both "DV to Firewire" and "4pin to 6 pin firewire" labled cables. Are these the same?

I'm pretty sure they are. I bought a FireWire interface and it came with a 4-6 cable and Ulead software for $20 at Fry's... And the cable fits my Sony's iLink port perfectly.

  13. Yes I agree, I have a Sony Cam also.

The smaller 4pin for the camcorder, the larger 6 pin for the firewire card.

Any chance you got it at Best Buy? Last time I checked, their cables were ridiculously priced. I think they lure people in with the promise of low-priced components and then make their killing on the accessories like cables.

Most camcorders and laptops are 4 pin, most desktops are 6 pins.

For cables, there are 4 to 4, and 4 to 6 (commonly).

6 pin Firewire includes power and ground. I use one for my external Firewire laptop drive. (6pin to 6pin)
