  1. I have a friend that works at a Audio/Video store and has asked me if its possible to create a disk which would contain a few chapters from movies to show off thier equitment.

They have all the Movies already, they just want me to take them and make on disk with all the best scenes.

Has anyone done this, and if so how easy is it and what tools did you use?

Now The thing is they require that the video not be compressed, which I don't think will be much of a problem since we will only be taking 5-10 minutes from each movie. And they want to have the DTS ( if the movie has it), but all other audio tracks can be deleted. Also the menus can be very basic since.

Thanks for any help with this.

    Hello,

Careful! The legality may be a BIG problem at a store (ie public viewing). You could just buy a dvd demo disc somewhere. I think they have trailer discs all over the place.

You could just use dvdshrink and remove the nondts tracks and select which chapters you want. Then use tmpgenc dvd author to load in the chapters. It should handle dts since your not reencoding.

I would use smartripper or DVDDecrypter, following steps 1 & 2 from the guide here. This will allow you to isolate chapters of individual DVDs. Once you have the VOB file(s), you can create IFOs using IFOEdit so that you can import these as DVD Videos in TMPGEnc DVD Author. Create your menus then burn using whatever you want.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  4. I will bring up the legal issues with him, and see if he still wants to have me do thins for him.

The DVD's are all legally purchased by his store for this purpose, its just they want to take all the good scences and put them on one disk. They find they waste lots of time looking for the right disk, waiting for the menu, previews and other things that slow them down. This wasted time during xmas and other busy times is critical.

I will look through all the sugestions and see I am able to figure out how to do this and post back latter.

    Thanks for all the help

I've worked at both BlockBuster and a hole in the wall called Dave's Video. The distributors usually GIVE those demo discs out by the truckload. No need to get into the legal amiguity. A friend who works at Best Buy says that they get them there too.

He shold simply check with the manager.

  6. Make the disc. Stores play DVDs all the time. If it is a crime to make this disc, then it was already a crime to show any of the movies to begin with. In the hi-fi section, all you see are movies playing pretty much.

The DVD Shrink route will leave you with one problem: when the final clip ends, the player will flat out stop. A loop function would be ideal in your situation, although I am unable to recommend a cheap software capable of this. Maybe DVD Lab or TMPG DVD Author.

Don't dvd players have a a/b repeat function built in? Check the dvd player to see if you can repeat a chapter or title infinitely, I think some will.

  8. As far as I know from what he said he wants, looping is not needed.

Basically these disks would only be used to demo surround sound. When a customer comes in they want to quickly get to a scene that really shows off their surround sound systems (ei pod racer scene is SWEP1). They already have Movies playing on most of thier TV's in a loop for when people are walking around, these disk would only be used when a customer is looking at getting a sound system.

EDIT: Sorry I quoted the wrong person

The type of disks I think you are talking about only show small clips from the movies. What he wants is specific scences which really show off thier sound systems, and TVs.

Correct me if I'm wrong, since I not in this bussines, just the family geek.

  10. I followed the guide and the DVD comes out like I want however the sound is out of sync.

Since I need DTS and menus I'm using DVDlab to burn the disk, but when I play the movies the sound is behind the audio.

    How can i fix this?
