Have you seen any patches yet that allow a gamepad to be used? I tried the older Quake console commands like "in_joystick 1" and "init_joystick" and had no luck. Nothing on the web yet either :P

The game is damn scary to play at night with good surround speakers. After a while though the random smattering of teleporting demons gets a bit old. I'm only to the communications bunker but I hope there are some open maps like the Doom days of old. The graphics are magnificent, the use of the flashlight a great idea. I wouldn't say it's the best shooter ever made but it's certainly up there with the likes of RotD, FarCry, and the Clancy shooters.

Why a gamepad? I think mouse-aim is almost a requirement with this game. Wait until you've got cacodemons coming at you and you'll wish you had mouse-aim

Im only using 2.1 suround (nice Altec Lansings) but man..its unreal, the atmosphere of this game. Not the best or deepest FPS ever but I must say it was worth the wait. I can't wait for Half Life 2 though, thats the one to watch out for.

I use the mouse for fine aiming, but I prefer the gamepad over keyboard commands for moving and selecting weapons and such. That's the system I've grown accustomed to from the early days of Quake

You need to learn single line movement commands where your forward/back and strafe left/right are on the same line of keys. If you're using the middle row (ASDF row) you have lots of keys around there to bind, it just takes getting used to. I started out playing Marathon with arrow key commands and no mouse input, then into Rainbow Six which was similar, then onto CS where I finally learned single line technique. Very much worth it.

Fortunately the only binds important in D3 are flashlight and weapons binds. I accidentally set off a rocket in room full of barrels before I set better weapon keys

  7. I run the right mouse button as the flip between flashlite and
weapon. Spooky @ 5.1 sound but I'm feeling the A.I. is
getting a little predictable at the early levels.

  8. I played this game for a few areas.
Got freaked out and sold it to a friend.....

True that, It is too scary to play at night with sourround speaker.
Although playing the in-game audio clips would help to ease the spookiness.

  9. Should I buy this game, is it good ?

Basically what I care about is the online multiplayer, is that any good?

Honestly, this is one of the games in which I like the single player game better than the multiplayer game. It isn't because the multiplayer game is shitty, it is just because the single player game is just that good. :P

  11. I probably will have a look at the one player but the multiplayer will be my main area of focus.

Do you think this would warrant buying it only for that ?

With any luck there should be a demo out soon. I actually downloaded it first to make sure I liked it, but I will be buying it later today (birthday present .)

Check the net and the weekend ads. You can get a 5.1 soundcard for next to nothing these days. And you can at least get an extra set of speakers to make it 4.1 for $10US for cheap ones.

I have to wait for XBOX Doom3, (darn slow computer )
