Please, read the guides located under "DVD Backup" to the left.

This is the most basic of basic questions. The search feature is your friend

    Once and for all,,,,
Please people, stop asking this stupid question. If you would spend a bit of time checking out all the guides on the leaft, your questions might be answered.

Actually there is no answer to your question because what one person thinks is great, another will think is crap!
No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD!

  5. There are several decrypters, personally I like DVDDecrypter...

Gurm, you seem like an intelligent likeable person, but that was a stupid question.

They made versions without the ripper, and he procured a version without the ripper.

  9. Like these guys said, there are many programs out there to rip and burn dvd's. I use dvd x copy express with ripper to rip and burn, and dvd decrypter to rip, dvd2one to shrink, and imgtool to make an iso, and finally dvd decrypter to burn to dvd-r. There are many programs in the tools section. Hope this helps.

    here here.

There is no be all and end all best way to do anything video related. The best way is the way that works for you and gives you the results you desire.

I personally use DVDDecrypter ISO Read/ISO Write for DVD-5, or DVDDecrypter, DVDShrink and Nero for DVD-9.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  12. My tools and way of doing things:
    1) DVD Decrypter (95% of the time) and Smart Ripper = RIPPING

    2) IFO Edit = ANALYZE DVD (also rarely Re-Author film only with extra Subtitles) - General Purpose Miracle tool, everyone should have it.
VOBEdit = ANALYZE (when Re-Author I use this to demux)

    3) TitleSetBlanker (used on 90% of discs), VOBBlanker (rarely used), MenuEdit Free (rarely) = PRE-SHRINK processing

    4) DVD Shrink = SHRINKING (also analyzing) or
DVD Rebuilder with CCE Basic = SHRINKING where compression at < 80% needed

    5) ImgToolBurn with Nero = BURNING

After steps 3 and 4 I always re-open the DVD with IFO Edit and play it to make sure my changes have not buggered up the DVD menus.

I am probably doing some un-necessary work (or steps) here but I want to keep the menus (I have to interrupt film viewing a lot so chapters are essential for me) and I want to minimize compression.

For a totally free list you could use QuEnc instead of CCE Basic for DVD Rebuilder and use ImgToolClassic with Decrypter for burning.

Like everybody said there is (nor can there be really) no consensus on what tools to use and even how to use them.

And a good thing too, otherwise this site would not be so big, it would not attract so many people and it would not be so entertaining!
    It wasn't me.

  14. Just use DVDShrink 3.2.X.X Perfect for Movie Only & has Dual Layer support.

  15. The "DEFINITIVE" method is the one you prefer, and will only hold good until something "better" comes along. But that's half the fun, new programs/versions are coming out all the time.
    Pull! Bang! Darn!
