  1. Does anyone know who makes this writer 8x. It sells for $ 39.00 after rebates.

  2. From other posts here I think it is BTC, can't confirm that though. I bought one last week but ended up taking it back without ever installing it, too many people unhappy with it. $39 is a hell of a price for a DVD writer though, it was $49 last week. Is that on the websight or in the store? I didn't see it in the Office Max ad where I am this week.

  5. I have the 4x version of this drive, a btc. No problems at all. Came with Roxio Easy CD & DVD Creator 6.0. If you do get it go to Micro Advantages website to immediately check for a firmware update. Some people had talked about problems when they first got their 4x drives, but were fine after updating to the latest firmware.

DITTO. I don't know exactly which drive mine is (ie btc or other?). It's the 4x microadvantage from officemax though. Bought it last fall and have had no problems at all.

P.S. No firmware problems for me

I just picked one of these up on Sunday for $39 after rebate. The 055 firmware was a little bit buggy so I upgraded to the 059 rev. and have been good on about 20 DVD's thus far. Was incidentally a replacement for my Sony 500-a purchased in 2003. For what I paid then ($380) I could get 10 of these!

I have been unable to upgrade the firmware with both the Windows and DOS version. have had the drive for 3 weeks, and have not been able to burn ANY DVDR media. I can play CDs and DVDs, and can only burn CDRs. Have a RMA to return the drive for "repair". and a new drive too . can you tell me what you did to flash the firmware? did you do it in windows or DOS, and how. I followed the instructions to the T and no luck. thanks.
NOTE: it is a BTC 1008 drive with firmware 0055.

  11. I have looked at the MicroAdvantage(39 after rebate) and the MadDog (9 after rebate) they have on their web site. Which do you recommend. I am going to give it to my brother for Christmas and want to get him something desent but not outragous. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

Did you go to http://www.btc.com.tw/english/3-1-4driver_download_dvd_dual.htm? I had no issue with this the firmware upgrade on my drive. I've got my drive on it's own IDE channel but I don't know if that makes any difference. There ay be something wrong with the drive.

  14. I bought this 8X DVD+-R drive and when using 2.4x media it works great, burning a DVD in 25 minutes! However when I use 4X media (Ritek DVD+R, Memorex DVD+R, Prodisc DVD-R) it takes 1.25 hours to burn a DVD. (I'd stick with 2.4X media but they're getting harder to find online). I have updated the firmware to version 59, and have made sure I am using DMA transfer mode. When using Nero 6 with 2.4 X TDK media the recorder buffer fills to about 95%, but with the 4X media the recorder buffer only reaches 20%. Help.....?
