  1. I have a VCD compliant MPG made up of several 'joined' files! Now don't laugh, but I joined them together with the DOS copy command 'copy /b' because it was the only method I could think of! When it plays in my Kiiro 838d player, it either hangs on the joins or 'skips' and the audio goes out of sync?

It plays fine in Media Player, just not on my DVD!

    I have 2 questions:

    1. Is there a tool that goes through the whole MPEG file verifying it's structure and 'repairing' it if finds a dodgy section?

    and

    2. Is there a 'proper' way to join multiple MPEGS into 1 single file so the 'joins' don't cause playback errors?

    Suggestions welcome!

Forgot to mention i'm using High Speed CD-RW's burned at 10x and at 4x, but the same problem!

  2. As you have noticed, simply copying the mpegs together doesn't result in a valid mpeg because the timecode information gets lost.

A proper way of joining several mpegs would be to use TMPGEnc's MPEG-Tools (Merge & Cut). Just make sure that you use the right kind of stream type when you do this.

I'm not sure if you'll be able to repair your broken mpeg, but what has worked for me in the past is to demux video and audio using the MPEG-Demultiplexor which is included with DVMPEG (and this is the only one that managed to demux the file in question properly). Afterwards I have been able to remux the resulting files using TMPGEnc which resulted in a valid mpg-file. Perhaps this process will help in your case too.

  3. Your suggestion about TMPGEnc worked!

I managed to split my joined MPEG back into 5 parts again (I'd deleted the original files once they were joined) I used a hexeditor, found 10 bytes at the beginning of the file and searched for the same 10 bytes throughout the whole file, I only found 5 occurences, so managed to split the file back into 5 pieces! Each piece played on its own

I put all 5 through TMPGEnc's 'merge & cut' set to MPEG-1 Video-CD, and BINGO! One file, burned to CD-RW, played with no hiccups!

Yo one bad mudda f***a Freshman I hope yo's a girl cos I cud kiss ya!

    Thanks!
