  1. Hello all,

I just brought a few cd-r 99 discs. When i put one in my Creative RW1210E cd-rw drive it detected it as a 80min cdr.

Do i have to overburn to use the extra 19 minutes on the disc and can i damage the drive doing it?

I have already used overburning on this drive but only 11mb over 800mb.

One more thing, is it normal for the burning to stop just before lead out is burned?

    Thanks in advance,

    David

I dont suppose that you checked whether your drive is compatible with 99min CDRs did you?

  3. all 90/99min media will be detected as 80min as the current standards officially only support up to 79:59 max capacity. the rational for this is down to the optics of current cd-readers. the spiral is still wound tighter on 90/99min media; however, the true capacity is underated to stay compliant. overburning is required to utilize the area past 79:59

Technically your not actually overburning though, the software just assumes you are.

  5. So its safe to try a disc then?

I did buy a few just to test.

Question is will i have a problem playing these in a dvd player if the disc is over 90mins?

Already know i can overburn though.

I let you know how it goes.

  7. whether or not 90/99min media is readable by your dvdplayer is down to the optics of the seperate laser that reads cdr media. the data is not actually written outside the normal data area-radius of the disc(what is normally termed overburning), but the spiral is wound much tighter together which may overtax the optics of your device. technically you are overburning as drive firmware incapable of this function(i.e. my old sony crx100e) will refuse to burn past 79:59 regardless of the software used. contrary to the example-simplified statement above some data is actually written outside the normal data area-radius if the full 90/99min is utilized
