Resulting AVImovie&sound; no sync at all.

I have been trying to convert the DVD -of my cousin wedding- (running time about 90 min) to an AVI. I've tried several time, with the original DVD copied unencrypted to HD as well as converting the mean feature with OSeX into 1 VOB.

In both cases the resulting AVI is about 800MB, however the movie is played in double speed while the music has correct speed. As a result the last 50% there is no movie (endcredits have shown) just a blanc screen while the music continues.

What's happening here???

To me it looks like a regular DVD with 16:9 picture, 25 bps and AC3 sound.

There could be an issue arising only with that specific DVD. Try to encode the VIDEO_TS folder and select only one chapter in the Chap: fields to see what happens.

Well the story gets even weirder.

I had already started another conversion and had modified the quick preset to using 'mencoder'. This time according to QT the movie was only (about) 50 minutes and QT indeed did not show more.

For reasons unknown, I then played that very same file with VLC and to my astonishment VLC showed the total movie with NO problems whatsoever!!

Then I used VLC for the former created AVI (the one that QT showed the movie in half the time while the music played normal full time) and VLC had again no problem whatsoever with the movie, it was shown fully just as it should have been!
