So, I've not been watching alot of movies lately, and the few I have watched I watched right after getting them at home. Anyway I get the urge to watch an anime series that I like and go to pull out one of my giant movie wallets and wait a second.... where is my wallet?
Both my movie wallets are gone, I have no idea where. Not at my house, not in my car, not at my friends house that a frequent, and not at work. Also I NEVER loan out more then 5 disk at a time to friends.
So what happened? Best I could think of is that I put them in my car at some point with the intention of taking them to my friends house.... forgot to lock my car, and they walked off. Now anyone who knows me IRL knows I'm a scatter brain (once took me 2 months to return a CD to a friend that was just sitting on my desk) so its very possible at some point in the last month or so this happened and I just not noticed!
What a crappy birthday present....
So this weekend I get to unpack the closet, pull all those DVDs out, and begin again. Its enough to make a grown man cry...

Join the club...I'm a scatter brain
not too long ago, I came home from work only to find that I had no water pressure, as it had been turned off due to a delinquent payment...
Apparently, I put the stupid bill in a different place than I usually do, and completely forgot about it!! Well...needless to say, the next day, there I was, standing in the line at the utilities company, *sheepishly* looking around, waiting to pay the bill in person...trying to think up some elaborate excuse as to why it wasn't paid on time...(I couldn't think of anything...they asked no questions, and I told no lies...)just a thought

Stupid that I lost 350+ burned DVDs?Originally Posted by adamf9898

That is incredibly SHITTY. If that happened to me, I would probably flip out and start smashing everything around me with a baseball bat (probably not, I am not a violent personOriginally Posted by Flaystus

A similar thing happend to me the other day. I thought my hard drive, which holds about 25GB of mp3s failed. I did not back up many of them and I thought I would have to pull out my old 96 capacity CD wallets and re-rip all my 100s of CDs into MP3s all over again. Luckily for me and my surroundings, the hard drive did not fail. This little scenario still prompted me to back up everything on several Prodisc DVD-Rs for when it does fail.
Anyway. About your story, does this mean there are TWO copies of the same DVD floating around. Isn't that illegal?
(cue dramatic music bum bum bummmmmm) Not trying to get you in trouble buddy, just curious about the rules.

1 copy, one real, that is by nature the definition of a backup. Last I checked anyhow.Originally Posted by 888888

Yes this is stupid topic.
Why would anyone carry 350 movies in a car? Doesnt matter were they backups, originals, divxes or whatever. Its plain stupid. Even if you were preparing yourself for any long car trip - I still don't and won't get it. This is beyond anything.
Im sorry for your loss Flaystus, dont get me wrong, but still it was very stupid thing to do. -
Ouch. Have a little sympathy.

Well the number one reason to carry that many is because your taking them from one place to another.Originally Posted by DereX888

OK. I misunderstood your post then, somehow I thought you were carrying them in a car around all the time.Well the number one reason to carry that many is because your taking them from one place to another.
Shocker Milwaukee:
I do. I lost once few hundred VHS when a waterpipe broke and flood my basement, rendering them useless. And many of them were original recordings of off tv that are still not available on commercial DVDs till today, so trust me - I know how it feels.Ouch. Have a little sympathy.
Anyway I said "Im sorry for your loss Flaystus [...]" Didn't you bother to read my post to the end before replying?

How it happened doesn't matter. How much grief Flaystus will go through, or not go through because he backed up, is the whole point he's making.
Ever since I lost 2 weeks' worth of work at work (repeat 5 times quickly) because of a HD crash I've had this motto:
There are two types of people in this world: Those that backup and those that will

Yup.There are two types of people in this world: Those that backup and those that will
And a backup of a backup stored somewhere else for really important data (or that unique one-in-a-world movie from the birth of your child etc
)

Hello,
Last weekend my computer wouldn't boot up and I was VERY worried. Fortunately it booted up on the next try, Whew! 8) . After that I BACKED UP ALL MY IMPORTANT FILES! 2 dvd-rs and 1 cd-r later my mp3's, mpeg projects, and family photos were neatly preserved and DATED for future crashes.
When will I learn to plan REGULAR backup maintence!!

Hello,
I know, I know, it's just tough to remember to do it once a month or so. I do occasionally back up my downloaded files for video codecs and virus updates. I'm on dial up so I DON'T want to have to redownload that stuff. It's just something I've got to remember.888888-Backing up is a necessary hobby

Hello,
Yes, that's what's still around for those of us who don't (or can't) pay the large monthly fees. $30 US and up a month for dsl (worse for cable) is just something many of us shudder to think about. Besides, I'd love to have the speed but I'd probably NEVER get off the internet! (this way dial up forces me off every now and thenGrimey-Dial-up? I didn't think that still existed

You remind me a old story.
I used to download porn at 28.8 modem.
HAND PICKED ALL THE IMAGES AND VIDEOS.
I hid it using Hidden folder.
My older sister suspects my activity and would also unplug the modem when I left PC for heavey overnight download. But was never able to find where all that sutff go.
One day she asked a so-called expert boy-friend who tries to impress her. He taught my sister how to uncover the hidden folder. She successfully deleted my 3 G worth of goodies. that was back in 96. still painful.
I then deleted partly of her final paper she saved in floopy disk in revenge. This time, the smart guy was unable to find any problem this time, she'll have to type missing parts again. hehe...
Hope you get your movies back soon. At least we are running on high speed now aren't we!? -

Not sure who had 3 Gigs of disc space back in 96.... rich kids I guess
Flaystus, its gonna happen to me too as well. My wife never locks our van and we keep the bulk of our kiddie movies (some VHS to DVD, some DVD backups) in the van 24-7... all 100+ disks. They are gonna walk one of these days. -
Hello,
A new life is born!! Evolution continues, ah sentient dvds! Who needs AI???Originally Posted by DVD_Ripper
Seriously, why don't you pad lock the dvd case. You could also throw in those exploding paint balls they put in bank bags to identify crooks. Also, put a gps device in it, sort of a video lojack retrieval system!
