Right, please can somone answer this....
I have used scenalyzer to capture from DVCam Video recorder.
When you go to capture settings in Scenalyzer you can set it to capture
Type 1 avi file (Media Studio 6)
Type 2 (Premiere etc)
Studio DV with ??scn files??(many scenes in 1 file)
Studio DV with ??scn files?? (1 scene in 1 file).
File size isn't a problem cause i'm using win xp pro full version NTFS.
Is there a difference in quality of captured AVi file using each of these methods??
It doesn't matter about scene detection also because i'm gonna use DVD-R authoring software to set chapter points etc.
I then want to output to Tmpeg to make an Mpeg2 suitable file for DVD-R. Sorted my problem from earlier post
OR
Buy Ulead DVD Movie Director and use their capture/output to MPeg 2
Burn using Ulead
Ohh one more thing
I have adobe premiere 5.1c and a firewire card but can't seem to get video to show up in capture window. Therefore i don't think its being picked up by premiere.
Any ideas, or shall i stick to one of the above
Which will i get best result with?
RimmeR
PS
(I've got a koool template for getting best mpeg2 files at the best quality for DVD Pal.It even makes the final file smaller than if you use the Constant Quality setting within DVD Pal.mcf. Only thing is it takes more time )

From reading other's posts on here, Type 2 DV will give you less headaches.
That's the type my JVC MiniDV camcorder outputs and I've had no problems
encoding using TMPGEnc.

...there shouldn't be. Even type1/type2 should give same quality. The only difference is that type2 has a 'redundant' audio stream in the file, hence you get a slightly larger file. Quality wise, should have no difference. As for the applications, I don't believe you'll get any difference in quality either, as firewire is merely 'transferring' from camcorder to harddrive. The only thing I can think of (in regard to the applications you mentioned) is 'ease of use'...

I tried using TMPGENC to create a DVD MPEG2 file (using the DVD template that came with TMPG) as I was considering 'miniDVD', and the quality was great. Unfortunately, I never had the chance to complete it...and it's still sitting there...one of these days maybe.

...it looks like there isn't much DVD Movie Director users here, as I didn't see any reply/comments on the software. Is there a 'demo' version in the Ulead site? You might want to try it out first (if a demo is available).
