some suggestions:
Trijicon TA44-5 Compact ACOG Sight is great"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
You should check the forums at http://www.ar15.com/. There are one or two threads there that include pictures of the view through the reticles of a few different scopes, including ACOGs. Of course, you'll have to keep in mind that some of these high-end scopes are pretty expensive - the good ACOGs easily cost as much as I paid for my Armalite brand-new.
Just don't buy a cheap scope. You'll probably regret it.A man without a woman is like a statue without pigeons. -
The Hendsoldt 6x42 that came almost permanently mounted to mine would cost more than that rifle, if you wanted one of those. Actually I may be getting rid of the G90 in favor of something larger caliber. Seems .300 WM is the popular round these days, but actually I'd like to see a .338 mag action in an L96. Mmm, firearms...

My 10 gauge doesn't really require the use of a scope. My rifle already has a site assembly on it with 2x, 4x, & 10x loupes. The bolt action assebly isn't set up to attach an aftermarket scope. It's an old rifle.

I was in the market for scope for a Antonio Zoli 12/.222rem some years ago, and after checking around i found that the only really good one was Swarowski, and thats not cheap.. Try to pan the scope and watch for distortion on the edges, even a Carl Zeiss fails the test badly compared to a Swarowski when set to low magnification. Was to expensive for me anyway, so i ended up with a Weaver 1-3x20, very nice when using the shotgun barrel but useless in low light ofcourse.
For my old .303 British i would prefer a Leupold, coz the el-cheapo i used to have on that one always hit my eyebrow if shooting while lying down (old fashion with military style low chinpiece). But i guess you dont need long eye distance on a .223, just that they are so incredible solid. I once read in a gun magazine, they had never seen a broken Leupold, that should count for something no matter what you will use it for. -
If I go hunting for any reason, I'm usually close enough where I don't need a scope. my friends and I used to go deer slapping. It's scary to do in Pennsylvania because bucks tend to spin around and try and ram or stomp you.

You find an area where they come through often for feeding or drinking. Set up a tree stand about 10-15' up. When they come near or under, you jump off and tag them with your hand. You want to get them at the side or shoulder, because they kick quickly when you do it. Once you've slapped them, you want to scramble back to the ladder and climb up in case you get a defensive buck.

I had a Weaver on my old .06 when I first started deer hunting. Twas a Savage 110 with a Timney trigger and a floated barrel. Bought the whole set-up for $400. Fantastic rifle for the price; the Savage 110 action is one of the most economical out there and every bit as good as the 700 rem. I used to have a 7-4A .22 when I skied biathalons and did some marksmanship with it in the summer but traded it up for the G90 I have now. That had the Hensoldt attached to it which I ditched in favor of a Zeiss, then ended up with the Nightforce NXS 12-42 I've got on it now.
I stopped rifle hunting after getting the G90 because it just didn't feel right being able to kill a deer as long as I could see it. From a deer stand built like a benchrest I could drop one at probably close to a mile. When I ditched the Zeiss I traded it for a 700 .375 H&H mag for bigger game (we had a moose hunt scheduled that year) but that was still too accurate for whitetail. So now I hunt whitetail with a Jenning Buckmaster which suits me just dandy. I can put one of the titanium broadheads into a buck's eye at near 50 yards with it. I've been bowhunting for 6 years now and absolutely love it.
However I still have my 870 Wingmaster bird gun, my .375 shoulder cannon, and the hyper-accurate 7.62 H&K to play with. Thing is I'm thinking about trading away the G90 (which is a hot commodity) for something bigger. I would love to get an Accuracy International .338 but those are hard to come by and $$$. Someone recommended the big Walther but again that's pricey. I like the L96 as its easier to come by than the big super mag and thus cheaper by a lot. Still, a .338 Lapua rifle would pretty much end my marksmanship bug -
I did bow hunting years ago. I was at my grandfather's home back in NY and sitting in a treestand. I was reading 'Back to the Future 3' the Novel to pass the time while sitting. I heard a snap and peaked over the edge of the stand and found a good 8 point white tail. I was sitting in an odd position, but didn't want to move much and startle the deer. I already had an arrow noched for just such and occasion. I clip my trigger and pull back. I leaned forward a little because the dear was almost directly below me and aim at his chest. All of a sudden a mosquito bites my right ear and I jerk the trigger. I hear a loud CRACK as I turn away (and scream an obscenity) I scratch my ear and then lean forward to see if I can find the tree I lost my arrow in. I shout an obscenity again, but in a happier mood this time. I jerked back enough and released my arrow right through his skull and jaw. The deer had dropped flat and the position I was in on the stand had him just out of sight. I nailed that sucker flat. I dragged it back to my grandfather's on an old tobbogan. My grandfather serched all over the deer to see if I struck it somewhere else and was pulling his leg. I had shot that deer clean through the skull. 1 in a million shot, and I can never expect to make a hit like that again.
