  1. so im trying to make some backups of my star trek episodes.

they are dvd9 and im trying to go to dvd5. this is the procedure i go:

    mac the ripper to HD
DVDRemaster the video using M2VRequantiser, target size: 4450mb, & i get rid of 2channel audio.
burn using roxio toast titanium, DATA setting, DVD-ROM (UDF) and then burn and verify.

some of it looks good quality, but then some is.. really grainy and "icky".

each episode is split into 2 VOB's and they are 1gb each, so im guessing they turn them into 1/2gb VOB's.

is this to be expected for quality, or..? i dont know. this is the first time doing this, so any help is greatly appreciated.

  2. I really like DVD2oneX for compression. It seems to do a really good job, and it looks great. And for help on how to use, I started by looking at Galactica's webpage. It has a ton of useful info on it. Just look for one of his posts and click on the bottom of his message, there will be a link there. Hook it up.
Oh, but FYI, the resolution should be really pretty close to the orginal. DVDs with episodes instead of movies are harder to copy high quality in my opinion. I still can't burn Sopranos Season 1 without a ton of pixelation. Good luck!

I too noticed the "graininess" you talk about with dvdremaster [but that was with v 1.0 or whatever the initial version was - i have not tried it since then so i cant speak for updated versions]

dvd2onex is the method to my madness

from experience the larger the gigs of the dvd9 the worse the quality will be in disc copy mode.

You can do movie only to increase the quality at the expense of the menu and extras

i have a "advanced" tutorial on my website that shows you how to do movie only with just the menu and the quality is 99.9% that of the movie only copy

    links in my signature,
    have fun

ok, so you think that DVD2onex would be a better tool than DVDREmaster? i dont really care about menu's, but i do care about the extra's on like the star trek last discs.

i totally dont have the money right now to fork over for dvd2onex

anyways, anyone else's input would be awesome.

    thanks guys.
