I originally posted this in conversion, but noticed last night that the lines appear in the captured AVI, too. Please help, if you can. =)
I'm converting some star trek episodes to SVCD. I capture at 720x480 HUFFYUV, using Radeon AIW. Source is Dishnetwork via SVHS. I frameserve to CCE 2.5 using avisynth doing a bilinear resize to 480x480. No other filters, other than noise reduction of 6 in CCE. My SVCD is plaugued by these really annoying scrolling horizontal lines that slowly scroll up the screen. Does anybody know what is causing this, or how I can get rid or/avoid it?
Thanks much!

what capture software are you using? if virtualdub or avi_io i'm not surprised....the microsoft wdmvfw mapper is buggy as hell for captures over ?x240
-
it's avi_io, but under XP...sorry...forgot to mention that. It was my understanding that with XP and the latest version of avi_io that there was no mapper, but wdm was supported directly with the radeon AIW.

there are no vfw drivers for the ati radeon regardless of os. try iuvcr(see tools section left) or stick with the ati mmc

Do your bars looking like (or remotely similar to) these:

If so, you are probably suffering from a ground loop. You can get a coaxial ground loop isolator or just disconnect the incoming coaxial cable from your VCR when you want to capture. If you choose the former, check here:

Yep...they look just like that, but not as severe. I can't disconnect the coax from the VCR, as I am capturing directly from a Dish Network receiver. Might playing around with which outlets everything is plugged into help?

I do not want to mislead you by professing to be an expert with ground loops and hum bars. I am not.
You might want to do some research on the web and the usenet. Here are some links to get started with:
