    Hello,
I looked through the tools list under video editors (and advanced) and saw many that will cut and join mpegs. I was wondering, do any let you insert chapter points into the mpeg file (and will those points be recognized by regular author programs?).

I'm asking because my computer seems to lock up in Ulead dvd movie Factory se and Pinnacle when I insert my own chapter points (on large mpg2 dvd files). I like tmpgenc dvd author but I occasionally lose audio synch after burning. If I could insert my own chapter points first and then author it it would save me considerable aggrevation.

    Thanks in advance.

    Kevin

P.S. I've downloaded mpeg2schnitt but can't seem to get it to work. It asks for .m2v files but it doesn't seem to take them from tmpgenc after demultiplexing. Any ideas???

I've found that watching the mpg, writing down where you want the chapter points.....then typing them into Ulead Movie Factory causes alot less grey or missing hairs.

    Hello,

Hech54 - So your suggesing doing a time code thing? If I mark down the hour minute deal is it easy to call it up (I know it has the enter option but I'm curious as to how quickly it will access)? I still have an issue with my slow processor (amd 850) so I'm not sure if it will easily respond.

Thanks though and I'll give it a go later.

The only thing I really use Movie Factory (2 SE) for is the Edit Disc function. You can place an RW disc in MF2 and add a nicer looking menu and some more extras right on the disc without having to place the discs contents onto the computer at all. It works REAL well with my Philips +RW discs IF you do the "time code" entry manually for your chapter markers. I was about to give up on that program until I started doing it "my way" and now I use it for just about all of my RW creations.
If you have the settings right....nothing will be re-encoded and nothing will ever touch your hard drive.
I have tried creating a DVD with material from the HD with MF2....it sucks in my opinion. For that scenario I use TMPGEnc DVD Author.

P.S. Be PATIENT if you decide to type in the time with MF....do not touch anything until it finds the correct spot or it will crash on you...most likely....especially if you have alot of chapters to add.
Some people say "add the chapters with the DVD recorder it's easier"....and it is but MF sometimes recognises the chapters....sometimes not.

    Hello,
Hech 54 - Wow, thanks! I'll have to explore the options you mentioned. I haven't tried the rw deal yet. So you can plop a menu on the disc without reencoding? Cool!

P.S. Thanks for the screen shots
