  1. I've successfully encoded using MPEG4 or XVID with the mencoder engine.

    But if I try the ffmpeg engine on the same source the encoding starts then finishes instantly. If I click on information it says

    Encoding started on ...
    /Volumes/Main/Ready/movie one/VIDEO_TS: Unknown format

    Any tips?

    Is the mencoder engine better for archiving DVDs of tv episodes anyway?

  2. ffmpeg engine does not support VIDEO_TS input. Use VOB with it.

  3. Hmmm. So if you have a VIDEO_TS folder with a few vobs, and one episode is spread over 1+ vob, does ffmpeg work or do you need one vob file?

    Maybe I should stick with mencoder.

    You would normally rip it as a single VOB (don't rip the complete disc) and then process that. MTR and 0sex (and I think yadeX too) can do this.
