  1. I just bought Pioneer dvr 520-s dvd recorder.
I am not home so I can only see it and read the instruction's manual.

I have read lot of info about it before deciding the purchase. I have seen that it has progressive scan.

But now i see the machine itself and the manuals and I cannot find where on earth is the progressive scan output. In a review, it says it has '• selectable component video output (progressive-scan for HD-compatible TVs or interlaced for standard TVs) '

Please, can anyone tell me about it? Am I missing something?

  2. The actual outputs used will be the same for Progressive or interlaced. There should be either a menu selection or a button somewhere to switch between the two. On my Progressive scan DVD player, there is a little switch (like a 110V 220V switch on some power supplies) that switches between progressive and interlaced.

  3. The manual says that the av connector could be used as follows:
    - video (compatible with all tv's but lowest quality)
    - s-video (same quality as rgb)
    - rgb (if the tv supports this)

Do I have to suppose that the rgp option which is defined by menu, is the progressive scan?

    Please help me.
Tell me if you need more info.

  4. Sorry, the Pioneer website makes you register to download the stupid owners manual. But yes, the RGB outputs will be the ones that output progressive scan, but they can also output interlaced.

And the S-video will not be the same quality as RGB (even when interlaced.)

If no one else here has an answer for you, you may want to search/post this question on the "DVD Recorder" section of the AVSforums

Surely someone there can give you a complete answer.
