It would be great if we could start a forum for all posts relating to printing or labelling of CDs/DVDs. This could include:

-Available hardware for printing on CD/DVD (thermal and injet)
-issues with printing on prinable media
    -discussion on printing using labels
-discussion on printing using direct to disk methods
-discussion on techniques to print effectively
-discussion on techniques to preserve printed discs
-technical help in troubleshooting printing problems
    -etc...

Right now most of these posts end up in the media forum, (as well as others) which makes it hard to follow talk on the media and related issues. If you look in the media forum now, nearly half of the current posts are printer related.

With the advent of cheap and inexpensive inkjet printers for printing direct to disc, I really think now would be a good time to give it some consideration.

    Regards,

    Savant

  2. I disagree. I think we have enough forums as it is.

Perhaps you believe we have too many forums, but keep in mind there are nearly a million posts on the boards. With all due respect, people would drown in their own posts if we didn't have this many forums. Frankly I can't see how making one more forum would be a bad thing. While people are free to disagree I just think that the more concise the forum the better it is at serving the needs of the respective readers.

    Regards,

    Savant

  4. I did not say I believe we have too many forums.
We will need new forums in the future but in my
opinion printing is not one of them.

    Why?

There is a line between being concise and
being fragmented. This site is for video and printing
is a secondary matter. It can be handled quite
well in the media section. Questions on printer
hardware can be handled in the Computer
section. There is also no confusion when it
    comes to searching.

Don't get me wrong, I don't disagree in that we can cover this topic in other forums, but we could also cover other topics in fewer forums as well. Media used to be covered in authoring, Digital TV used to show up in DV, etc.

I guess I would be less likely to suggest a new forum if printing was a bit closer in topic to media. The problem is that media and printing are really two completely diferent topics in the same way capturing and authoring are two different topics. They may be somewhat related, but they still enjoy seperate forums.

Anyway, I just wanted to run the idea by the big guy (Baldrick) and I'm sure he'll decide if it has any merit.

    Regards,

    Savant

Oh.. well if you don't want fellow members to comment just
add Baldricks name to the subject line and he will know
it is for him only. You could edit it now.

maybe you can explain to me how the hell that happens? every once in a while someone responds to a thread that is over half a decade old, i don't see how that's possible, do these people just dig deep into the archives until they find something they wish to comment on and have at it?

The thread isn't locked - it's fair game.
The only keeper of the sacred flame is Baldrick, if he want's to close comments on a thread, fine.
