I've connected my old Tivo-full-o-stuff to a notebook PC that's running XP MCE. I can view the video input using MCE's TV app, but it introduces a slight delay. That makes using the Tivo's remote really frustrating.

I'd like an app that displays incoming video as close to real-time as possible. It doesn't need to record, I just essentially want to turn the PC into a monitor for the Tivo's S-Video output and sound.

Any suggestions on a Windows app that shows DirectShow input from an external video source with no delay?

If I'm reading you correctly, than I think dscaler will do what you want. This is a free tool that basically turns your PC monitor into a TV monitor (assuming you're just feeding a composite video signal into an AV input on your PC).

I use this program and like it but it can be a bit buggy; fr'instance, on my PC, I have to launch the program, then turn on my VCR (which inputs to my PC) because otherwise it won't recognize the video source, or, worse, the program will just lock up the entire OS. That being said, once you figure out the kinks, it's not bad for the price.

  4. Check out VLC, it is not directshow based, but it may do what you want.
