  1. I've made backups of a couple of movies with different programs. The images when mounted on the computer all play fine on my computer with WinDVD but when I try them in my DVD players the last few chapters skip. From what I can gather peeople here say it is due to bad Media. When I runned the burned disc in Nero CD-DVD Speed to see if it'll give the green line increases like people have said in the forum I get this. My real question is do I test the media before or after it is burned to? And does this error below indicate that the media is bad?

    Error! Unrecovered read Error (031100)

Probably. Try some othe media till you get a nice even line like this:

Something like this is no good, the end of the disc is not readable:

Well from your pic it would seem to be a media problem, fairly common that errors occur at the very end. What brand are you using? Some would set their target size to less than a full disc to solve/avoid this, say 4.2G. Have you tried different media?

But I'm confused when you say the HD image also shows a similiar result. Some sort of finalization problem? Are these DVD's that you yourself have ripped? What programs are you using?

As a test why don't you try one in DVDShrink and under preferences set disc size to custom and use 4200, instead of 4464. That should end up at about 4.1G which acording to your pic should be well within that media's safe zone.
