I've been reading the Netflix sucks thread for a couple days. Try DVD Barn is you want something really bad.
I joined DVD Barn for their 10 day free trial on August 4th. On August 8th they charged my credit card $14.99 for one month which ends on September 8th.
Stupid me- I was thinking that a 10 day trial started on August 4th would go until August 14th- not August 8th.
Meanwhile, it's now August 11th and I have still not received a single DVD despite their claim that my first one was mailed on August 5th.

I tried DVDBarn as well when I was looking for a replacement for Netflix.
I never got my password, which is required to access the site. I tried several times-using the link on the site that said "resend password" It would say "password resent" but it never was. And yes, they have the correct email address. Needless to say, I never recieved any DVD. Nor were any sent.
I figured if the sign up was that problematic, it would only get worse. So i decided to cancel the membership. Unfortunately, I couldn't do that without a password.
So I called & emailed the company several times, and got no answer. Finally, I was forced to leave a message. I left ALL my information and requested cancellation of the account. This was WELL before the trial expired.
They still charged my card the monthly fee. I emailed them and explained the situation again abd told them I wanted a refund. They did refund the charge.
The following month they charged my card again! I'm probably just going to contact my credit card company rather than waste time with this company.
Either they are completely incompetent, or they are scamming people. -
Here's an update on DVD Barn. After I cancelled and they charged my credit card I had to email them through their 'ticket' system 3 times before I got a reply. They said they'd credit my charge card for the $14.99 and it could take 10 days.
I waited almost a month and no credit showed up on my credit card. I tried contacting them 3 more times over the past week and never got a reply.
Finally just called my credit card company and disputed the charge.
So be warned- you give DVD Barn a credit card number at your own risk. -

I know this is an old thread, but I'm new here. I was recently a member of DVD Barn and it was a nightmare. I started looking for other online rental services when Netflix raised their prices. I wish I had searched for more information before I became a member. When I joined there was no free trial, but I figured for 12.95 I would at least get my moneys worth. Boy was I wrong. Ten days after I joined I had still not received a single dvd. I got the same excuse others have been given. We're going through some changes and it's just temporary. These "temporary changes" have been going on since intelliflix bought the company in July. The complaints go back that far, a few a little farther. They say they have a lrger selection than Netflix and more copies of the movies. Sure they do, that's why they skipped over 30 of the movies in my queue to get my first three. Apparently at some point in time the queue let people no the availability of movies, it no longer had this feature by the time I joined. I had no idea what kind of wait time I was looking at for the movies they skipped. Customer service is a joke and if you demand they refund you're money they refuse. They handle everything through e-mail so you can't call anyone, or so they would have you believe. If you go to the BBB the phone number is listed with their address and you can call them. I got my money back, but keep an eye on your credit card, because they have tendency to charge you even after you've cancelled. If you have received any movies from them make sure you personally put them in the hands of a post office employee so that you have a witness they went back. This company will charge you $25 dollars a movie for any movie they don't get back. Even though, with all their problems they should be able to figure out it's not the customers fault since it's happening to a lot of people. This company did not do a single one of the things they say they will do to lure you in.
Oh yeah, take a look at their section DVD Barn in the news. They have quotes from various magazines and papers that make them look good and suck you in. Turns out, the quotes where I could find the actual source material are taken completely out of context and are not about them. One is about Netlix and BB, in the article DVD Barn is merely mentioned in passing as one of the smaller independent online companies out there. I think this tells us what kind of company they are. -
