I waited very patiently for the end of the day to leave work, and stop by the local (only) Blockbuster. Today is the release of Kill Bill Vol. 2 (for anyone who lives in a cave).
As I enter the store, I am greeted by the display rack with 100 copies of KB for sale. At $22.00!That's ok, I'm only renting. Back to the new release aisle. Proudly displayed under Vol 1 is Vol 2. All 10 copies!
And 1 VHS copy, of course. Think any of them are available? NOPE!
This is a pretty small town, but only 10 copies for rent! And 100 for sale! Bullshit! Of course since it's a 2 day rental, what are the odds there will be any returned tomorrow? Not good probably. Now I have to wait until Thursday.
This in itself is not enough to get me this pissed, but what do you think is the only movie in the store without the Guaranteed in Stock offer? That's right!![]()

well thats a bad decision on their part, as i'm sure many other people are in your situation and will get pissed off at blockbuster. people go there to rent movies, not buy them(mostly). -
My local video outlets allow you to reserve new rental releases before their release date...then you just go pick it up on that day.
You could've bought a copy...then return it the next day saying it was defective and get your money back (and that would've been a free rental)
:P
Or you could buy a copy then try selling it afterwards. -
I won't rent from them simply because I can buy a gun easier than renting a movie from them. When the local one first opened up I went to rent a movie and my Driver's I.D. wasn't sufficient enough for a membership.

There are 3 Hollywood Videos within 5 miles of me. There's one I frequent often and I know the manager very well so he reserved 1 for me. Would you believe it, it was the only one available out of all 3 stores. Altogether were 350 copies.
I saw it and it was.....Pretty decent. -
The way I understand it is this...the head office is the boss. The store itself doesnt actually order any copies, the corporte office does. They decide how many copies go on shelf to rent, and how many copies go on the floor to sell. What I've been told by my manager is that they order for us based on the demand of the product, the revenue the store makes, and how many customers that store recieves per week. My store got 55 copies to rent and I think 30 to sell because we're one of the busiest stores in the district.
About the 100 copies for sale...complain to the management. Back when confessions of a teenage drama queen came out, we only got about 12 copies to rent and had a bunch for sale but since it was a popular product and every other person with a 12 yr old girl wanted one, we took some off for sale, the manager printed up some barcodes, and we added it into the inventory for rental instead of sale. That may solve your problem.

I ordered it through BB online rental & it shipped yesterday.
Usually our store has it the other way around, 100 rentals & ten for sale. did you ask the store manager if they would give you a copy to rent? -

One thing I like about the LOCAL Hollywood stores is that some are really just independent stores just buying the Hollywood name and carry most of the Hollywood line of products. When you go there, They have a ton of copies for rent and few for sale. They know regular retail stores are going to sell them for cheaper anyway. Yet they stock heavily on the rentals. Once they fall of the new release shelf, according to popularity they keep a certain number of copies for the demand and sell the rest as "previously viewed" for discount prices. If they can't sell them fast enough, they sell them back to the main warehouse, who redistributes them to other Hollywood stores that CAN sell them. Now I know other rental places do this, but it sounds like the BB where you are is basically trying to make more money off of the sales than the rentals. -
Why do you want fullscreen when you lose about 1/3 of the picture? -
Unless it was shot as full screen, there's no purpose to it. I hate that computer panning they do for WS being converted to FS.

Why do you HAVE to rent a movie the first day it comes out as a rental? Can't you wait a week?
-
For the same reason the freaks will camp out a year in advance for star wars tickets.

I think a lot people renting that are gonna be disappointed
The Poseidon Adventure has been very popular as of late since the new remake has been announced.
Also had a hell of time renting movies with Marlon Brando since he died. -

Not if we already watched just about everything else. -

Last week I only rented 2. If I saw a movie in a theater and really liked it, I will have bought the movie. Last week I bought 3 new movies and 6 movies that are old, but recently released on DVD. Thus brining my DVD collection total to 218 (non-burned/store bought). Yes, I still buy DVDs at the store.
