I just managed to get hold of an old base unit for nothing, and low and behold it has a Real Magic MPEG2 decoder card installed!
Is there any way this be used for MPEG2 decoding using AVISynth (instead of MPEG2DEC.dll), or with DVD2AVI, or with DVDShrink (deep analysis), thought I might be able to speed things up a bit...

Well the thing with those MPEG2 decoders is this - they decode in realtime. ONLY in realtime.
Right now, your CPU is capable of decoding MPEG2 much faster than realtime, but when those ReelMagic cards were the hot ticket, CPU's couldn't even decode a DVD in anything approaching realtime.
So yeah it's a nifty piece of hardware, but it won't take any workload off your CPU because it's engineered to run much slower than your CPU can.
