  1. Obviously, the answer is...burn the resulting mpg file, right?! Well, I tried. I started with an avi file (the original divx file) and now have 2 more files on my computer, an mpg file that is too large to fit onto one DVD, and a txp3 file that is NOT recognized by my Nero burning software.

I am using Nero Vision Express to try to burn my file onto a DVD. Why won't NVE "support" either my mpg file or the txp3 file? I thought that once it went through TXP that it was ready for burning. Where am I wrong?

Thank you, thank you for your help.

    Signed,
Forever a newbie, it would seem to be.

  2. Okay, it looks like I'm either not being clear in my question or it's just a really dumb question (and noone wants to bother telling me how dumb it is! Ha Ha)

Well, it comes down to an even simpler (and possibly dumber) question: After I used TMPGEnc Xpress to change my MOVIEdivx.avi file to a MOVIE.mpg file (I also have MOVIE.txp3 file on my HD as well), what do I burn it with? None of the Nero programs seem to support my resultant file. Did I goof somewhere?

I dont use TMPGEnc Xpress, so I can't give you and specifics on what you might be doing wrong with it, whoever generally the process goes like this

Source file (usually avi using some codec - Divx, Xvid, DV etc) -> Mpeg-2 Encoder (CCE, Mainconcept, TMPGEnc) -> Authoring Package (DVD Lab TMPG DVD Author etc) -> Burning Package (Nero etc) -> Disc (DVD)

There are other intermediate steps that may be required to adjust quality or fix sync issues, but that is the basics.

You seem to have a couple of problems here.

    a) Your settings are wrong is your mpeg file is too large for a single disc. You can either reencode with better settings, or ignore this for the moment, and shrink the DVD with DVD Shrink after the next step.

    b) Assuming your mpeg file is DVD compliant, you need to author a DVD. You don't need to create a menu or subtitles etc if these aren't needed, but you do need to get it in the proper format.

Once you have dealth with these problems, you should be able to burn and play.
