  1. I used WinAVI to convert the AVI file to the VOB file. I then used nero to burn it. When i played the VOB file on my computer it looked just fine. When i burned it to my disk and played it on my tv it cut off the ends of the video. Now i know it is a wide screen formate movie and all, but i can't seem to find a way to get WinAVI to keep the aspect ratio like in TMPGEnc. I have tried countless times to use TMPGEnc to convert to no avail. Now when i finally find this program that is so much faster and actually makes me a "working" dvd. There is this little annoyance. There has to be a way to keep the aspect ratio with WinAVI, right????
    Thanks

how much of the sides does it cut off? because if it is just a tiny bit, this is normal in all tvs. and if not that, just keep trying different aspect ratios in WinAVI, also, something that happened to me was with version 5.6, it would mess up the aspect ratio, so if your using 5.6, i suggest you upgrade to 5.7

  3. yea, i'm using 5.7 and it is a significant amount of video that is cut off. I made said disc before i registered the program so you know that text that is printed across the video (its says winAVI or something over and over), well it cut of like half of one group of words on each side. Another thing i need to mention is that the VOB file plays fine on my PowerDVD player on my computer, but its only when i burn the dvd that it doesn't work well on my tv. What i really want to do is just have winAVI keep the aspect ratio like TMPG used to do when i burnt VCDs. I can't figure TMPG out and this program is light speed compared to TMPG. Is there a way to have it keep the apsect ratio for a 16:9 video

alright, i think i may have figured something out, i was playing a dvd i burned today, it is widescreen, and noticed that in the setup menu, i had it set to 4:3 Pan and Scan, and it cut off the sides of the movie to fit the tv screen, so check your setup menu and put it on 16:9 (for widescreen tv), or 4:3 Letterbox (widescreen video for regular tv)

  6. well, no dice, but i think it just might be the dvd players i use. One even plays the video in black and white and the video is cut at the sides, while the other plays in color, but it cuts off the sides. I don't think winAVI is gonna work for me. crap

it might just be the video file, once, i kept trying to convert a file with winavi, every single time i tried, it went out of sync, so, maybe just convert it to a different file, then convert it in WinAVI. or just use TMPGEnc 8)

  8. thanks guys. I got a disc to work properly. What i did was set the target format to PAL(the format of the avi) and set the target scale to 4:3(even though the source is a 16:9 video). The thing actuall did keep the aspect ratio like I wanted this time. I must have messed something up the last time. Thanks for your replies, i have another question now, but i'm starting a new thread.
