  1. I am converting a dvd from pal to ntsc, the video I have completed, the audio I am using dvd2avi then besweet to do the pal conversion. I have tried converting it to wav and then back to ac3, and also just straight to ac3 and setting the template to pal-->ntsc, but when I try and add it to tmpgenc dvd author I get the following error-

    "*Illegal audio format.

    Illegal audio format.
For a standard DVD you can only use the following audio formats:

Dolby Digital (AC-3), MPEG-1 Audio Layer-2, or Linear PCM."

I can import it into DVD-lab but I don't hear any audio when playing the dvd preview, am I missing a besweet setting? Any advice greatly appreciated, thanks!

  2. BeSweet does not produce DVD compliant AC3 audio files. Most players will accept it, but others won't (especially Pioneer!). Tmpgenc DVD author is very strict about accepting compliant files (which is why I like it ).

  3. Any recommendations on a different program? I am mainly converting music dvd's so audio quality is pretty important. Thanks!

  4. Try taking that new ac3 file and fix it with Besliced. It's very easy. TmpgEnc DVD Author often will accept it after Besliced fixes it.

  6. Thank you for the info- would you still use besweet to do the pal-->ntsc conversion or does ffmpeg handle that? Thx,

I converted a PAL DVD to NTSC. Video with TMPEG. The AC3 audio I simply demuxed the AC3 stream from the PAL video. Then authored it with the NTSC video. TDA and had no problem with audio. Why do you need to convert?

  8. Well I've read some of the guides and after converting the video they used besweet to convert the audio, so I guess I'm just trying to get a handle on the process and what I need to do to handle the audio. My understanding was the audio would not sync if you didn't convert it.
After decrypting did you use something like dvd2avi then just pull it into TDA? Thx,

Demux into m2v(video) and ac3 audio with VOBEDIT.
    Convert m2v with TMPEG.
Load new video and ac3 into TDA and author.
    No other programs needed.
The audio goes out of synch when you "process' it. There's no need to "process" ac3 audio.

a 'proper' PAL->NTSC conversion usually involves chaning the video framerate from 25fps to 23.976fps (and then use 3:2 pulldown to get 29.976fps for NTSC). I assume this is what kiwiroo is doing. This of course changes the playback time slightly, so the audio length/speed needs to be adjusted accordingly.

Sorry kiwiroo, I have never done this with Ac3, so can't help. Just trying to explain things to wulf109 a bit.
