  1. I would like to make a short home movie for my wife's palm tungsten E. Can anyone give me advice on the best format to convert to (from original avi file) and what size to use?

Here's a link to get you started. http://www.palmpower.com/issues/issue200102/tealmovie001.html

I have a Toshiba PDA with the Windows Mobile OS, so I use different software. Make sure you have a lot of RAM, video uses a lot of storage space.

If Palm uses similar video formats, most video is easy to convert using regular video tools like Virtualdub and TMPGEnc encoder.

  3. Video on a Palm leads you to a world of pain (except for the newer Sony Clies which BTW, are no longer being produced)...

If portable video is important to you, then get a Pocket PC where you can play "normal" video formats like MPEG-1/WMV/DivX/XviD/etc.

  4. this is probably a one time deal, so video in the long run won't be that important. I want to get her a 256mb sd card for her palm for christmas and was going to put a bunch of the kids pictures on it and a short 10 minute video of them.

So palm does not support avi or mpg?

  5. I haven't looked for a while, but in general no.

I think that the newer Palms (at least the newer Clies) support MPEG-1 but AVI support is a dream.

Have a look at the above link on TealMovie...
