Flame away copy boy.
EVERYBODY has the right to back-up the DVD's that they have already purchased...that is why this site exists.
NOBODY has the right to copy (back-up) movies that they rent from ANY company. This site never has endorsed copying rented material in any way, shape or form.

Look, I have no desire to fight with you. Like I said, I'm tired of this whole thing.
You are 100% correct. Nobody has the right to copy any rental. It's stealing. Period. And I'm just as opposed to it as you are. But outside of one person (who was warned) nobody here has advocted warez
Obviously if someone is renting 70 dvds in a month they are either copying them or they have no life
I reserve the right to become a little irritated when a Netflix rental takes 2 days to reach me and 7-8 days to get back to them.
I hardly fit the bill of a heavy Netflix user. I don't rent New Releases. I rent older movies and independent movies. And I rarely keep a movie less than 3 days- I actually have a life.
Nonetheless, I was still experiencing the delays. So it's not limited to people that are copying and immediately resending the movies.
For you to call everyone who is irritated with Netflix's tactics a liar and a thief is outrageous.

same thing here i have been renting from netflix for 2 1/2 years and as of the last 2 months the movies have really slowed down,,,they think they can screw the paying customer,, i dont think so canceled account and moved on to blockbuster online better price and 2 free in store coupons per month

The good news is that B@llbuster just got into the whole "Online DVD Rental" and they are paired with Microsoft so you know it will take off pretty quick! Enjoy!
Expect Bill Gates and M$ to start offering movie downloads for a hefty price, like we need any more dependency from Bill
PS: B@llbuster = Blockbuster for those of you who didn't get it.

ANYHOW, back to problems with Netflix, if that is OK.
This week I had the worst expierience with them to date. On Monday they had my movie back but they said they were shipping Tuesday (typical delay tactic, I have seen it before). On Tuesday they said they had shipped and sent me an email confirming it. Come Wednesday and they decide they really didn't ship and there the same movie is ready to ship out on Wednesday! Now it is Thursday and they decide they don't really want to ship me that movie anyway and so they drop it back into my que and start over.... guess what, they say they will ship out my next selection tomorrow.
Nice job delaying Netflix.Still a few bugs in the system...
-
I returned my last 3 disks the previous weekend. E-mail stated that 2 of the new shipments were supposed to arrive yesterday (12th). I got one the day before and am still awaiting the 2nd. We'll see what happens when I get the mail today. The 3rd was stated for Saturday, so it MAY also arrive today.
Like a flea circus at a dog show!

Just a little update:
I've been with Netflix on and off since they began and had little to no trouble with them.
I've tried out Walmart and BB online.
Walmart takes about a week (or more) to deliver the DVDs, not including the 1-2 days for them to decide to ship my next selection (all "available now"). When I send the discs back, I will get an e-mail the next day saying that they have received it. Additionally, I've reported a missing disc after having not received it after 8 days. Instead of shipping a replacement, they simply took the disc off of my list. The disc eventually came on the 14th day
BB takes about three days, plus an extra day after receiving my returns to choose and ship my next disc. They also suffer from the "forever to you, overnight to us" syndrome. On top of that, most of my selections are in the "Extremely long wait - forget it, if you lived to be a million, you wouldn't see this DVD" status, 90% of them being general releases, not the hard-to-find director's aunt's cut then re-edited special edition.
From my experience (until I test out a few more), Netflix is by far the best online DVD rental shop (of the three). Gotta check out some of those places with po...a wider variety.

I've been tempted to join so I'm glad I read this. There's obviously a price point or a videos per month point where they start to lose money. Like most businesses they'll try to find ways to lose less and hope you go away. They make money on casual users who like the 'no late fees' feature and they lose money on big users. I don't see a solution. They're not going to jump through hoops just because you're a good person.
As much crap as I watch, I'm in no position to judge others viewership habits, but man, some of you guys watch a lot of movies.
If selection is your biggest issue try http://www.vlibrary.com/. Expensive and slow, but they're old school and you're supporting a good cause, which is limitless availability of every conceivable piece of junk ever put on celluloid.

My .02 (pre-tax).
A buddy of mine got me started with Netflix a while back. He used to rent from them back when they still came in cardboard envelopes. I had Netflix for years and I really have no complaints about their service. It seems to be the concensus that they're the best overall at the moment. I'd have to agree that they have the best selection and a pretty good business model. I just recently cancelled my sub due to the fact that my DVR (100 hour) was getting full and staying full and my Dish bill is more expensive (and a contract); so I opted to bow out for a while.
That said, although I respect everyone's right to voice their complaint / opinion etc, I also reserve the right to ask 'what are you prepared to do about it?' I had the 3-out plan myself and although I don't have the free time that some people have, I hardly ever spent more than a day or two without a movie. My distro was in TX and I had about a 2-3 day turnaround (which isn't bad for regular US mail). A lot of people I see complaining about Netflix won't give it up or switch because it really IS the best available service of its kind.
Some people say 'Netflix is supposed to be unlimited...they're cheating their customers.' Ok, what's your limit then? From my experience, as well as a few people I've known with the service, they pretty much operate as they've represented it.
Here's what I've seen / been told.
1) No set rental periods, no late fees.
Haven't seen anyone disputing this.
2) Unlimited rentals.
As much as some would like to dispute this, I haven't heard anyone say that they've been told or otherwise notified that they've reached their limit (total or for a given period).
---This excludes the basic 2-out, up to 4 per month plan.--
3) When they receive your current rentals, the next rentals in your queue will be sent.
(Here's where the problems arise. Here's where I think the misunderstandings occur.)
4) Netflix is basically a mail-order business which allows online ordering of movies for rental.
5) Netflix has more than 2 million customers with varying levels of service (2-out to 8-out).
6) Netflix carries over 25,000 titles.
7) Netflix has 27 distribution centers.
8) One flat rate (+tax in most states), no fees or hidden charges. No postage paid by the customer.
HOWEVER...
A) Netflix does NOT carrry a full library for each of their customers.
B) Netflix does NOT process rentals on weekends.
C) Netflix does NOT guarantee that your title will be processed the day it arrives at their facility.
D) Netflix does NOT guranatee that the next rental in your queue will be available and ready for shipping from your distribution center as soon as your current rental is received.
I don't see where it is that Netflix is cheating their customers. I'll agree that not everyone gets what they consider to be the same level of service (i.e. same turnaround time, same availability), but this is more a matter of chance and logistics than people being cheated. I'll even go as far as to say Netflix may do more for their trial period customers than their subscribers, but by the same token, it's a common business practice and there are no contracts, so it's not like you're being 'trapped' with what some might consider 'bait and switch.' If you go to a buffet-style restaurant and end up with a booth farther from the buffet table and consequently spend more time in transit and waiting behind others than those who have closer tables, would you say you were cheated? Would you say this if the more popular food items weren't available as quickly as the non-popular ones?
Food (no pun intended) for thought.Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

Well laid out, however no argument (it seems) will convince those who's only goal in life is to burn, burn and burn. How can comeone explain posts coming from some about blanks beeing ordered in hundreds quantities, proudly announcing their 5000'th disc burned etc. etc. ... and they dare calling it "backing-up" home "movie collection". Bullshit! This is not my business, but if they run full fledged wholesale back-up operation that can challenge any Blockbuster stock room I suggest they shut up and be happy for obvious reasons and not come here whining that Netflix stands in their way of bringing their obsession to the next, obscene level.

Blockbuster's availability of titles was great at first - anything I selected was in stock (including some of the most hard to get DVDs that no other online outlet carry)...now as more people are signing up, the number of available titles is starting to decline.
Reminded me of the classic line in Five Easy Pieces about Don't tell everyone about it - pretty soon they'll all go there and it won't be so clean
I also noticed they stopped using the thicker envelopes (small , protective and very convenient) and now use the flimsy paper envelopes (probably to save money) - so I expect to see an increase in damaged discs - something Walmart and Netflix are good for.
Other online renatal outlets use small padded envelopes to prevent the discs from being cracked by the time they reach you.
Blockbuster has the best selection of music titles than any other rental place online, and I've been able to get all of my top selections so far.
Some things are gonna change for the worse and some for the better as time goes - we'll see.
Right now, I don't think it's fair to expect Blockbuster to be au pair with Netflix in terms of service - they are trying to improve and made an impressive start (comparing them with other online rental outlets)

It may be well laid out, but it does not address the main point of the thread - nor do you. Netflix states in their ads that rentals are unlimited. They do not qualify it. They don't say yo can rent as many as you want as long as it isn't too many. They don't say you can rent as many as yo want as long as you keep them for a day or two, or as long as they have hired enough help to stuff the envelopes. All of titles in my queue are listed as available "Now" and most are obscure titles and have never been listed as even "short wait". But when I return 2 disks on Monday they receive both on Wednesday, they will ship one on Wednesday and the other on Thursday. This happens over and over. They are clearly delaying shipments to reduce the number of total disks shipped in a month. Again, I understand why and wish it didn't happen, but I do not plan to drop them. I think they have a great selection and a reasonable price. It is that they clearly state that rentals are unlimited, when, in fact, they are.

When Netflix lists a title as 'Available,' it means they carry it and one of their distributions centers has a physical copy in stock. This doesn't necessarily mean that your closest distro has it on hand. Ideally they ship from the closest distro, but if it's isn't on hand there, they will eventually ship it from the next closest etc. The idea being that keeping each DVD in its home distribution area simplifies inventory and reduces costs. For example if they receive 'Kill Bill v1' from you on Monday and don't have 'Kill Bill v2' in stock locally, they may wait a day before shipping it from another distro that may take a day longer in transit versus still getting it to you in the same period of time but also requiring a distro-to-distro transfer once your local distro receives a copy in again. I've had times where I've dropped all 3 of mine in the mailbox on a Tuesday, they receive them on a Thursday and only 1 or 2 of my next selections ship Thursday, the rest shipping on Friday. I don't see this as a conspiracy to limit my usage; I just understand that since Netflix ships on average more than 3 MILLION DVDs per week, there's no box with my name on it and the next 3 discs in my queue just sitting there waiting to be shipped out as soon as someone yells that my last 3 have been received. Maybe if the vast majority of customers speak up and tell Netflix that they're willing to put up with price increases to accomodate the hiring of larger staff and the purchase of more copies of popular titles, they'll get everything turned around same day. But I doubt this will ever happen.
Again, I still have to ask, what IS your limit?Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

If this does help. Yep I do have a family. I have 2 kids. One plays football and I am a assistant coach.
When I watch movies they are after I put my kids to bed by 9:00pm. I do not usually go to bed unitll about 1:00am or so. So I have about 4hrs to watch them. On Saturdday and Sundays I usually will not make it out BB to get 2 more movies, so that does slow me down so on my renting. All in all what you assume, think or believe, thats all on you. But saying it is SO and it's not, your are being the hypocrite of saying such things b/c you don't know nothing about me. I love movies and if I have the time I will watch them!! Believe that!!*New Mac user*, been PC user 4 life
