hi world.
few questions to ask.
i want to set up a web site.
i know this is easy to do my son made one, i think he used yahoo geocities.
but i want to make one with a forum and possibly a chat room.
the reason for this is i started using a web site related to my job and the moderator was omnipotent, a meglomaniac and a pain in the f*ckin @rse.
i want to make a similar site but for absolutely no gain on my part.
i like messing about on my pc it means i do'nt have to talk to my girlfriend.
why? u may ask do u not want to talk to your girlfriend?
coz i do'nt like her much and i've not got money to bugger off to my own place.
now where was i?
ok web site.
now this one seems to be the best i've ever been on, no pop ups, no adverts, nice ppl, always get an answer to your question but does it cost money to run it?
do they just do it off their own backs cause they enjoy seeing the pleasure they bring to mear mortals lives?
anyway what was my point?
oh yes web site.
how can i set up a decent one without paying for it and not wanting any cash from it?
cheers![]()

take a look in the lower-left corner of the screen. this site has some heavy-duty advertisers and sponsors to cover bandwidth and costs.
as for the software to run it, it's being run with phpBB and phpAdsNew.
you could set up a forum on EZBoard or some other public forum site, however if you have any growth, you're going to find that the bandwidth allowances on free forums may not cut it and it is going to cost you money for extra bandwidth.- housepig

You can set up forumn starting at about $20 per month even less. You need a hosting plan that supports php and mysql both of which usually increase hosting plans from the normal $10 permonth to the next tier. If it is very p[opular you may need to purchase additional bandwidth. I think you get a 35gig limit now which is more than sufficient for a small board. Try www.aplus.net for some hosting plans. There are cheaper ones but I reccomend them because they have there shit together. You won't be able to run this forum on any free site or find any free forum without ads.
There's other options available too, you can check out my discussion board here http://www.coaldelivery.com/cgi-bin/discus/discus.cgi?pg=topics which can be used with any hosting plan that has CGI which is nearly any plan. Aplus now has a option for auto instaslling the one I'm using. I'd upgrade my plan so I could use this board but no one uses my current one so there's no point. -
http://www.delphiforums.com/ Is one free place, there are many others. A search on Google for Forums will bring up most in the first few pages.
Also Yahoo Groups with a completely open to the public group is fairly effective as well.
And there is always an omnipotent ass somewhere on the board, just look at tgpoOr is that impotent?
