Since the newest version of ffmpegX 0.0.9n i can't play any file who's encoded with it. The encoding process to .avi / .mov / .mpg works fine, but the resulting file are not playable in QT even with the installed codecs of DivX, XVID or 3ivx. I'm using the newest version of QT. But the big problem is that even MPlayer can't play them nor VLC.

I can confirm problems with transcoding to MOV mpeg4 with v0.0.9n. Mpeg2/mp2 to XviD/mp3 went well, though.

  3. Please provide precise details in order to make possible to reproduce the issue.

made some quick tests, no problems here

vob > xvid (ffmpeg): OK, plays in QT and vlc
vob > mov: OK, plays in QT and vlc
xvid from above > mov: OK, plays in QT and vlc

    cheers

Here's a step by step guide of my procedure:

    - Drag&Drop a .mpg file onto ffmpegX
    - Chose the MOV quick preset
    - Mark high quality and two pass in the options area
    - Hit the start button, finished

The encoding process finishes whitout a problem, but the resulting .mov file isn't palyable in QT.

  6. No problems here, OSX 10.3.4 and Quicktime 6.5.1.

My problem has gone worse. Now when i try to drag&drop a videofile onto ffmpegX it crashes completly. Is there a possibility to completly uninstall ffmpegX (older versions included) and reinstall the newest version?

did you check your system/disk/permissions with disk utility or something like diskwarrior?

the latest version of ffmpegX just put things to Library/Application Support
/ffmpegX folder and of course the application itself which is wherever you have put it. older version have installed some stuff into /usr/bin (like mencoder, mplayer, mpeg2enc etc.) and maybe somwhere else but i don't remember now, because i lost my HD two weeks ago and have reinstalled everything from scratch on a new one.

    good luck!

I haven't been able to reproduce yesterday's problematic file. Maybe a reboot was all that was needed.
avi>mov libavc and avi>mov xvid went fine in default setting, also with either High Quality or 2 pass.
mpg>mov libavc and mpg>mov xvid produced a working file in default setting, although audio was out of sync (ahead of video). This mpg was already a conversion from the source avi mentioned above.
I'll test some more to be sure, but I expect it was a local problem.

I can't get ffmpegX to work correctly since 0.0.9n . Nothing seems to help, restart, reinstallation ... nothing. Isn't there an unistaller or something for this app? How can i uninstall ffmpegX completly? Witch folders must be deleted? And how is it possible to uninstall the files of older versions? I'm using a dual 1,8GHz G5 with Phanter, could this be the problem?

  12. To uninstall ffmpegX completely, trash the application and the /Library/Application Support/ffmpegX folder.

But, uninstalling will not have any effect. The issues you report are probably coming from something else, including your OSX install. I would suggest you to backup your data on an external hard disk, and reinstall OSX.

I already tried to reinstall OSX, doesn't work either. Now i also tried to unistall ffmpegX, no success. This software doesn't seem to work anymore with my system configuration. Now the resulting files are not playble in any videoplayer. Even the preview button in the app show's no picture or sound no matter what codec. Sometimes the files aren't complete, half of the movie is missing. The weird thing is that the process finishes without a problem, it say encoding completed! What the hell am i doing wrong?

    @Major
I wasn't able to send you some samples, always had fatal errors with your mail account. How can i send you these samples? They're 4 and 5MB in size.

One option would be to sign up for a .Mac 60-day trial account, giving you 20 MB of iDisk space. Upload there and mail major a link only.
