using tmpgenc dvd author instead mydvd to see if it takes as much disk space. i use a 250mb file and it ends up taking over a gig. The format is 720x480 48hz mpeg1. It works fine w/ mydvd but when i try to add file in TDA it says:
Video sequence header is incorrect,
video sequence header is necessary for every GOP in a standard DVD

To fix this use TMPGEnc's MPEG Tool. Select Join/Cut tool tab. Add the file and click go. It does not re-encode the file but just fix the header.
