  3. I can touch type but haven't measured how fast I can go since high cchool but back then it was probably around 80wpm. Depends what I am typing as to how fast I go, if I am just typing something from off the top of my head than I go fast but if I am reading something and then retyping it then I slow down a bit.

I suck at the number pad on the keyboard though. Getting better though.

    Don't look at the keyboard.

Also, practice typing more efficiently ...and faster.
Cap, remember in the early eighties that Software app called Typing Tutor that was DOS based... remember the vendor... I don't
I remember the app. It came on a 5-1/4" floppy ( ) I don't remember the vendor though.

I remember in middle and high school, if you took a computer or typing class they placed this box over your hands so you couldn't see the keys. There was a program in middle school that had this cat that chased a mouse. The faster you typed, the faster the cat would move to catch the mouse. You win if you could catch the mouse. However, if the mouse got to the cheese first you lose. You have to type words that appeared at the bottom correctly for the cat to move. i wish I still had that program somewhere, that was fun. Advanced mode, you couldn't look down at the keys anyway. If you looked away from the screen one moment, you'd miss a word or see it too late and lose time.

    BUMP!

When I get home I'm gonna try this website:

    http://www.typingtest.com/

Should be interesting. I know I can type pretty fast but never got a speed test. The only problem is use the numberpad all the time and not the regular number keys. I'll post my results tonight.

I'm right around the same speed.... unless I'm stoned.. then it takes me 10 minutes to find the room the computer is in let alone type on it.

i hate tests like that. im not good at reading what somebody else has wrote then typing. i dont think it shows how fast you really can type. specially when like the first sentance it shows me at 120wpm. it doesnt really show how fast you really can type.

yeah, I suck when I try to think on my own of what to type, and type at the same time. I can read what's written and type fast, and I can type fast with dictation, but if I have to type a letter to someone and I'm thinking of what to type on-the-fly, it might take me a half hour to an hour, or even longer, to type only a couple paragraphs

Can't check that site but in high school, I was at about 50. Just thinking of typing brings back horrible memories. Typing was the ONLY computer class we could take in high school. Two years of learning how to type the letter "Y"...

    Hello,

The typing test wouldn't work in my sbc yahoo dsl browser so I booted up IE and it worked.

First try 63 WPM gross, 52 WPM net.

    I used the "finland" test.

I only had one semester of typing class back in 7th grade (1970, if you're counting ), but I can type without looking at the keyboard, and I use the home row. We only had manual typewriters back then in school, so that's what I learned on. None of the keys had letters or numbers on them, so you couldn't cheat. :P

I had an old Smith-Corona at home that probably weighed 30 pounds that I used for practice. The ribbon was so dry I had to really hammer the keys.

Looked similar to this one, could have been the same model

One thing I never got used to doing - the numbers. I still have to look at the numbers if I need to type one, although since the number keypad is off to the right on the PC keyboards, I just use one finger to type them.
