I'm not great at typing, actually I suck. I'm a 4 finger typer that has to see the keys just to be sure.
How many of you type like that?
How many of you type like a secretary? You know, the home row and all that crap...![]()
Just realized how bad I am while trying to type replies with only the light from the monitor....freaking face is like 5 inches from the keyboard.![]()

I'm inbetween a home row person and a hunt-n-pecker. I peck but i know where all the keys are so i'm not hunting.

I hunt and peck, even though I know how to use the home row (who says the public school system sucks?).
Hello. -
I'd never admit to huntin pecker, as I am heterosexual; however, when it comes to typing, I am a 2 finger typer that has to look at the keyboard while typing.

Once when on a roll that tigershark game said I typed about 85wpm. -
I type correctly also, after a couple of weeks you will be typing better than hunting and pecking. :P

I had a hard time converting over from an electric typewriter to a keyboard, but I can do 40-50WPM most of the time now .
The smaller keyboard on this laptop slows me down a little. I have to do a lot of reports, learned to type in self defense.
If you do a lot of typing, try a typing instruction program. Not that hard to learn. -
Hunt and peck.... tried the correct way in school but could never get it down. Actually would use the hunt and peck system for typing tests in high school and would be the first done (lots of practice on a Commodore 64). I'm actually no longer hunting, its more like just peck. The only trouble with it is I can't look at screen for spelling mistakes.

I do the home row, I sometimes still have to look at my hands or the screen, I can't do the no-look transcribing from another document, I have to flick back and forth. last time I checked, I did about 30-35wpm.
when I was in 6th grade, I had a paper due the next morning, and my handwriting was so atrocious that my teacher wanted it typed. so I dictated my unreadable handwriting to my mom, who typed it up for me... except I kept revising while writing, so it took 3 hours to type a 2 or 3 page report.
so when summer break came, she came up to me and said "you're going to summer school."
"but I didn't flunk anything!"
"typing class. you're going to type your own papers from now on."
best use of 3 weeks of summer break I could have asked for. hated it at the time, but whenever I watch someone who can't type, I'm always happy to have that foundation.- housepig

Funny thing is, I had typing i high school and almost failed, most because I hated typing and didn't own a computer. I got my first PC near the end of that very school year, by the end of summer I was typing faster then anyone in my class did.
Guess I should have waited another year on typing class...
Last I heard from anyone at that school the class had been changed to "keyboarding" and was taught by the typing teacher who could barely turn a PC on. -
I'm decent...I average between 65-70 WPM. Back in high school, to take ANY computer related class, you had to first take an intro to keyboarding class and it worked wonders for my typing skills. I still suck at numbers and make a spelling error now and then, but I'm not bad overall.

I'm a home row typer. I think I type some where around 35-42 wpm. I took typing in HS for the easy credit and because Angela, Jamie and Janel were in there but that's another story.
I know my spelling sucks sometimes, that's because I can't spell, not because I can't type -
I hunt and peck at 60+ WPM so what should I care how I do it? In fact I don't need to hunt because I know where the keys are. I can also do almost 30 WPM single-handed on my laptop keyboard, that's my greatest feat. When typing in a story or something where I have a great stream of thought going I can really spit out the words onto the screen. I've never measured how fast I go when I'm really getting into a story (I do freelance fiction bits here and there) but it's gotta be pushing some awful high numbers. I had a girlfriend who was MS certified to train trainers in MS apps and my typing drove her nuts, but she was pretty impressed when she saw me really get into a rhythm.

Home row? Ohhhh, the little bumps on "F" and "J". Got it. Nope - I use several fingers and can type pretty fast, and I'm not a 2-finger typist, but I'm not a touch-typist. Unless you count touching myself ...

I learned to type on a manual typewriter and can easily type over 80 wpm.

Since with keyboards and computers this is no longer a problem someone brought out that other layout which is supposed to put commonly used letter in easier to access places on the keyboard. It looked pretty cool but I'm not daring enough to give it a try. Anyone ever use that layout? -

I use my index and middle finger on my right hand and my left index finger to type on my keyboard. I am a fairly fast and accurate typist. I don't need to look at the keyboard in order to type correctly, but now that I'm thinking about typing it's become a whole load more difficult!

Using a normal keyboard I type about 50-70WPM transcribing or through dictation. If writing a personal letter I'm up to almost 90WPM. I use the home row. The problem is switching back and forth between a regular keyboard and a laptop's. On a laptop, I'm a bit slower or need to backspace for corrections more often. Odd thing is I use the laptop more often. THe fact that the keyboard is so small does not help any. I can use the numeric pad very quickly too. I took a 10-key and some advanced calculation courses here at work, so I barely look at the keys of a calculator. My only problem is trying to dial on the phone after using a calculator. Damn, upside-down phone pad.
I've made so many wrong number calls at work, that I'm starting to get a strong reputation for it.

I have good usage about 6 of my fingers... about 30-40 words a minute. Don't have to look at keyboard or screen to type... with minimal errors.

Sometimes, I make a lot of mistakes in spelling and this is especially so when I am tired or not thinking.

I am doing well typing this now as I am doing this on two hands now and after a long overnight sleep last night.
This helps of the typing efficiency, so no mistakes thank you.I am a computer and movie addict -
i still look at kb,
