I am trying in my lame vain attempts to get my stupid files (mpeg2) to work on a regualr dvd player (I tested two diff ones) and for some reason I keep or something keeps messing it up. I used Nero 6 to burn the file onto a cd-r disk but when it plays in the dvd player it goes at like one frame a second and has green crap all over the screen and I am not sure but the audio was crap to etc... This was just my on-the-fly test disk to see if it would run in a DVD player and crap it won't so I just want to know if it is maybe the program I am using or should I covert the freakin file to mpeg1 for vcd buring or what?
I want to be able to add a nice menu etc.. to this thing but I have about had it at this point.

Fun isn't it? jus kidding.
Be more specific about what you're doing, then others
can help you better.
Usually capturing to avi is best, then use TMPGENC to make
your mpg file. 1 or 2. whatever.
What capture device do you use? etc,
Hope you're not using Nero to make your mpg file.
Nero is only good for burning. -
Rjupiter...
vcdforme is right, not a lot of info to go by.
It sure sounds like an encoding prob but...
Do your Mpegs look good on your PC viewing software? (Windows Media Player,PowerDVD,WinDVD,ECT.)
Were those hardware DVD players you tried SVCD compliant?
If yes, in Nero, try UNCHECKING "Create Standard Compliant CD" in your "Compilation Properties" box.
That may help...Good Luck!

ok, I got the file froma friend of mine and it was already in mpg2 format. Which since I posetd this I went and tried to use a bunch of other software and I finally got a hold of an old freeware version of VCDeasy and it says the file is in PAL or was encoded in PAL format so I had VCD fix it but then it would not regonized my burner so I made the bin file and did a test burn with that and still did the same thing on the dvd player as before.
I have two dvd players one is a Panasonic and one is a Sony. The Panasonic is about 2 years old the Sony about a year and the disk won't play in either.
The file however will play on my computer in all my players WinDVD, Power DVD etc...
I am trying to make the VCD/Svcd for my sister so she can see it but she only has an Xbox to play the disk so I don't kow even if I do get it right it will work at this point.
Does this info help any in solving my prob? -
well xbox won't play (s)vcds so you can cross that out in your list of problems. I really can't help beyond that b/c of lack of information, you sure your dvd players can play svcds?
-
Make sure the dvd player can play vcds. My sony can play vcd or svcd but, it can only play cdrw, not cdr. Also, if it is a svcd need to do that header trick.
-
I probably won't play SVCD/XSVCD (MPEG-2 on CD).

A word of advice - while you feel you need to vent some frustration, the attitude that everything is against you isn't going to get you anywhere
Are you completely sure that the file you have is already SVCD-compliant ?
In order to make a file play on an XBOX, I would be fairly confident that you would have to re-encode to DVD-compliant specs. I am not aware of XBOXs playing VCDs or SVCDs, although I could be wrong.
In terms of your players, you'll find that your PC will play just about anything as long as it can pick up a video and audio stream. I would suggest that you look for your DVD Players in the DVD Players list to your left, and see if other users here have confirmed that they can definitely play VCDs or SVCDs.If in doubt, Google it. -
Well, let's see if we can get you out...

If that link for some reason doesn't work go to
http://briefcase.yahoo.com/rogergray1964
click on the My Documents Folder, then download the svcd test.zip file. extract it, and you should have a cue/bin file. Burn this as an image on a CD and see if it plays in your DVD player. If it doesn't then your DVD just doesn't support SVCD. If it does, then there is something wrong with your Mpeg2 file.
Hope this helps
